Hello everyone! I am a nursing student at WCCCD and I am going into my second semester. Lately though I have been having some doubts about making this career choice. I understand that's common with anything new that someone is pursuing but I have watched a number of nursing videos on Youtube looking to gain some more insight on how it actually is working as a nurse and most of them were, to be honest, depressing. Knowing that I only have so much financial help I really need to make a smart career choice that I can live with. So, my aim is really just to get some advice on should I consider making another career choice or am I over thinking to early in the game to actually know whether this career is the right fit for me?

You might need to talk to people who actually know you. I can't tell you if nursing is a good fit for you anymore than you can tell me if electrical engineering is a good fit for me.
Right, I understand. I guess I don't know what it is exactly I am trying to get an answer to. I will just continue and see for myself. Thank you for the reply it was very insightful.

I would see if you can job shadow or volunteer at a few places. Then you could see what nurses actually do.

Depressing, yes. Only if we are powerless to make the situation better.
Most of us became Nurses because we wanted to make the situation better.
Sort of like Eleanor Roosevelt's concept of it being better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.
The best to you in your endeavors, Arozzi!

Have you started clinicals? If not, you could look into volunteering. It will give you an idea of what it is like.

Not everyone is meant to be a med-surg nurse. Once you get into the specialties (peds, psych, L&D, ICU, tele, ER, etc.) you may find your fit and feel differently about it. I feel that pull in the NICU, and I'm counting down the days of taking care of adults to when I finally graduate and can take care of the babies and their families.
