Hi everybody,
I could really use some advice. I am sincerely hoping that someone out in cyberspace can point me in the direction of a bank that will approve a loan without a cosigner. In addition to not having a cosigner, I have had a mix up with my credit history. It is under dispute but won't be rectified until exactly 2 days before my program begins. So until then, I can consider my otherwise decent credit score virtually destroyed.
To make matters seem even more critical, I have to apply for an apartment and won't get approved without using a student loan. The apartments with leases that are available for when my program starts are unfortunately taking applications now, and without a loan I won't have a place to live lined up. I'm moving to another state for school.
From where I stand it seems pretty hopeless, but I am hoping there is an avenue that I'm not aware of? Your help would be great if you've been through this or know of anyone who has!!

all private school loans would do a credit check I believe. My credit tanked after my first divorce and I am still trying to get it back up! If you dont have a cosigner, you may need to just go with the federal loan & get a job. Unfortunately, these days, most banks have raised their credit score limits.
Good luck!

I think it's really hard to get a loan without a co-signer...I could be wrong though. I know I applied for one with chase a few years ago and I have excellent credit but they wouldn't approve me without a co-signer because I didn't work at my job for at least two years. I have to apply for another one this summer and use my dad as a co-signer and I'm scared to death I might not get it because of some credit mistakes my mom has made that affected both of them.
You could always say you've worked at your job longer (if you're working)...they might ask for a pay stub but they have no way to find out how long you've actually been at your job for. Everything is harder to get now with the economy.
Good luck, I'm in the same boat as you. I hope you're able to get the loan!

Sure they do, the bank just calls up the company and asks for the human resources department to verify your dates of employment.

Federal student loans (Stafford subsidized and unsubsidized) can be obtained without using a cosigner or checking the applicant's credit history.
I obtained a $20,000 private student loan from Sallie Mae back in 2004 without a cosigner, but my credit score was excellent and this was during a time when banks were still freely lending money. Much has changed since the banking economic meltdown of 2008.
Sorry let me re-phrase...most of the times when you try to get a loan whether it be a student loan, private loan, or auto loan, etc. The bank will not call and ask for employment dates. They may ask you for a pay stub though. I just talked to my financial aid office today and they said chase and citi bank are a little easier to get compared to other private student loan companies. Good luck!

I am having the same issue. I applied for sallie mae and got approved without a co signer but with a very very high interest rate, i most likely will not accept the loan. I appled for wells fargo and needed a co signer, my usband relucently co signed and now i need a joint co signer, which i do not have. I start school in Aug and I am kind of freaking out about not being able to pay for the rest of tuition. Does anybody know how many times you can apply for a loan without affecting your credit score. My husband will not be co signing for anymore of the loans because he is afraid it will effect his score. Also, does anybody know where you can get a loan other then sallie mae without a co-signer?
