Would you press criminal charges if one of your students took money from your wallet? The student has been expelled from the program but has not returned the money If I press charges theres a chance I could get my money back and hopefully she would be prevented from applying to another nursing school... Just looking for opinions. Thanks!
I was a hungry young girl growing up. I ate off the floor, out of the garbage can, I could not afford deodarants, my stocking had holes so big..., I ate others left overs. Once I had a roach in my plate at a resturant, yes I continued eating. But I grew up in a time when personal relationships were important. No one called the authorities to report my parents for neglect, nor did they report me for my indignations.
OP you have done what you thought was honorable. I do not know what I would have done. I do know this girl did not take your belongings for the fun of it.
Was it worth it. What was her back ground and ethnicity?

Her background and ethnicity are irrelevant. She stole, she has repeatedly lied, even to the police. She has been given numerous opportunities to rectify the situation and she has not done so. At some point, enough is enough.
Please don't make this about race.

You would have to have proof..not a hunch, but proof.
If all you have is rumor or "I know it had to have been her" then I wouldn't waste my time with it.

The next time you take something that does not belong to you, think what if. It could be a simple pen. Just what if. And do not tell me people do not precieve race as an issue. I work in corrections. The jails would have to close if all the African Americans and Mexican were FREED

I was not refering to you or your opinions. I directed my post to Raggedy Ann.

Forgiving someone doesn't mean that they don't have to face the consequences of their action. Reporting the theft to the police, and me personally forgiving the individual are completely different things.
