I didn't see a thread similar so I decided to make one. Share your strange coworker stories! It's all in good fun.
A long time ago I was training with a nurse and before she started her med pass she goes "the most important med pass is one I do for myself" She began pouring random vitamins from the med cart into a cup and took them.
I have an aide that talks to herself. It's on the NOC shift but sometimes she works my shift and I'm always wondering "who is talking like that?" It's her. Full conversations.
One time I walked into the break room and a coworker was googling "how to cast spells on awful boss"
I'm sure I will think of more later
The last LTC I worked in had a culture where most nurses just gave their report sheets to the next nurse, chicken scratch and all. Not only did I insist on new sheets each shift, I had an OCD system of highlighting my paper to keep track of the various med passes and blood sugars. I also kept "master sheets" for each hall with who got pills crushed, etc. and updated it regularly.
I'm sure I was considered quite the weirdo but just laughed off the eyerolls. I worked PRN and didn't know what hall I would be on any given day. Had to do what I had to do to survive!
I once had a coworker from another country who was just obnoxious. I tried to be nice to him because I figured it was cultural stuff and he couldn't help it, but I got fed up. Almost every sentence out of his mouth started off with "In my country..." and was just a long rant about how much better the other country was than the US. One day I finally asked him why the heck he was still here if he hated the US that much. He just laughed.
He laughed at everything. After every single word that came out of anyone's mouth. I blew up once because he had screwed something up and I asked him to fix it, and he laughed in my face. I knew that's just how he was and usually succeeded in not taking his laughter personally, but when I'm already a little mad and someone laughs at me, that flips me into full blown rage. We had a very loud verbal altercation in the lobby. We both got sat down by management for that one.
He was also very touchy. He picked me up and carried me up the stairs once without my permission. I was too stunned that he was actually doing it to say anything until he set me down.
I ran into him again a couple of years later. He had left the hospitality job we had worked at together and became a CNA in the renal unit at the same hospital I worked in. He would scream my name and run down the hall to come see me if he saw me in the hallway. I stopped going to the cafeteria at night and started bringing my lunch because we kept running into each other down there and I really dreaded running into him that much. At least he saved me a few bucks because the cafeteria was expensive.
When they're under the age of 16.... And you're talking to them in an adult manner and you visit them and buy them what their mom said they couldn't have.Ya know../
This actually happened in April. She apparently was talking to minors (12 year olds) on xbox live. She's been doing it for years. Told people at work, our DON knew. Tried to get her mental help. Well, a few years back apparently one of the moms found out, called her at work and said stop talking to my son blah blah blah I'll come after your license blah blah blah take you to jail .. Ect..
Apparently she never stopped talking to him, went to his state, bought him a phone and a new xbox. Momma must have found out. She got arrested AT WORK middle of her shift. She's currently being charged with like 12 counts of child luring and endangerment.
She never told me about this. I actually didn't believe it when someone told me until I looked her up in the jail inmate lookup.
WOW! These are pretty wild and peculiar folks y'all are talking about! Right now I can only come up with one story:
Small Dr.'s office, one nurse and a receptionist. It was a specialty that did not often require the exam room doors to be closed.
The receptionist would walk quietly down the hallway and stand where the doctor could see her but the patient couldn't.
When the Dr. happened to notice her standing there, she would move her hand right over her crotch and act like she was masturbating!
The first time I saw her do it, I could not believe my eyes! She said she liked to do it to him becasue it bothered him. Well, apparently not too much; he seemed to be enjoying it. He always smiled and shook his head at her. I never could figure if they had something going on between them.
I currently work with 2 ladies that share the same husband. Long story- the husband and wife let his much younger cousin move in with them and the husband ended up cheating (with his own cousin) and got her pregnant. Instead of divorcing him the wife just accepted it and they all live together as one big "happy" family. They each have 3 children by him. The wife worked here first and she got the "girlfriend" hired on. The husband doesn't work and won't allow the women to drive. They try to work the same shifts so, he only has to make one trip. He'll come to pick them up hours before they get off and he'll just sit in the parking lot, it's so creepy. Oh, and the "girlfriend" has been written up before for asking people if they want to have threesomes with her and the husband. She also claims that the husband and wife aren't together anymore, that she just lives with them. The wife says otherwise although she does leave from time to time for a day or 2 but, always ends up going back.
I used to work with a nurse who would constantly "joke" about who she'd like to kill (ex husbands mostly) and how she'd get away with it. She'd also frequently call work when she was drunk to talk to whomever would listen. She'd talk about putting spells on people a lot.

That's sick. And creepy!
I had a charge nurse whose hubby was cheating on her long-term, for several years. When she found out the dire straits that the girlfriend lived in, she moved the girlfriend and her 2 children in with her and her kid, and they both ditched the guy. No, they weren't 'into' each other; the charge nurse was just a very straight-forward and practical person who thought that they BOTH deserved better. She also got a lawyer for the 'other woman' and made sure she got child support!
Had one nurse that made me wonder how she got her nursing license. She would work night shift and I would follow her on days. That nurse would leave insulin syringes/needles in the patients rooms, sign off she did dressings she didn't, leave paper work scattered around the nursing station, and was pretty much a disaster to follow. If you politely corrected her or made suggestions, she would get defensive. When I sat down to get report from her I saw she had left insulin out from the cart, but it was insulin she wasn't supposed to give. It was insulin that I administered on my shift because the patient is very brittle. I about ripped her a new one when I saw that. I complained to my supervisor about that nurse every day I relieved her (wrote statements) and I never got much of a response. I even caught her red handed trying to hide a narcotic med error. She gave a patient one of their scheduled long acting pain meds during her shift that was to be given on my med pass. Thankfully I caught it while we were giving count - she was in denial - she signed it out when its not prn. Then she had the NERVE to ask me to waste one of the patients PRN pain meds. Umm NO! When I saw that patient he told me that he noticed the pill was wrong and informed that nurse and she still gave it to him. Trust me I wrote one good report on that.
She wasn't gone until they caught her doing CPR on a patient that was a DNR and she was even continuing as a different co-worker was waving the DNR in her face. Thankfully medics were called and they took action against her. (I wasn't at work at that time but when I walked in - whoa).
I am sweet as a lamb but everytime I laid eyes on that lady I felt like a wolf about to attack. I am protetctive of my patients.

EEK! That's nasty!
We (DH and I) once worked with a janitor who looked exactly like Santa Claus. In fact, he cultivated the look and every Christmas took time off work to be Santa at the mall. And Christmas parties, the local elementary school, etc. Everyone I worked with thought he was such a wonderful man because he donated so much of his time to the community with the Santa gig. He was very popular with my coworkers. He creeped me out; I'm not sure why.
Then one day he was arrested and the whole story came out. He was a pedophile -- had molested both of his daughters and his daughter-in-law caught him molesting HER daughter and called the police. UGH! I can't figure out why I'm the only one who got a creepy vibe off of him.
