If there are no US nurses to hire, we need to hire someone. Just don't see what the big deal is...
This is just gonna start a nasty discussion. Foreign nurses have to get certified to work here. I don't see the big deal. The foreign nurses I have worked with picked up many shifts that would have not been filled leaving the unit short.
The problem with the nursing shortage is NOT foreign nurses, its the lack of nursing educators and nurses that have left the bedside. And they are certainly not "taking over" and "pushing" anyone from their job.
i am not sure what kindred is?? is it a hospital? i've never heard of it.. but i agree with trauma , if we have the need , why not utilize them...maybe you could expalin more in depth of what you mean by your post.
Kindred is a long term care facility. I believe they take vent patients. I really get irritated when people say "foreign nurses are pushing us from this nursing specialty". Um, no they are not. If nurses decide to leave an area of nursing for another, that's their choice. It's no fault of the "foreign" nurse.

i agree i ment for the stop foriegn nurses poster to explain more..lol.. i've had a long day ... and i agree with you 100% ..i've been a nurse for 23 years and have enjoyed working with foreign nurses... take care
I don't know what your situation is but it sounds to be like your issue is with Kindred and not with foreign nurses. There are a lot of foreign nurses that are wonderful nurses and PEOPLE. I find it very insensitive for you to make a statement like that on this board, especially as this is highly utilized by international nurses and many of them are great contributers.

It is nothing personal with them, it's just that I believe in protecting our profession. The shortage maintains our wages, supply and demand. Bring in cheaper alternatives and bring in lower wages and less job security.

Protecting our profession? Our profession is practiced in other countires as well. If it is "nothing personal", why make your username "Stop foreign nurses" and why are you blaming the foreign nurses for "taking over" LTC? It certainly sounds personal. If you want to blame someone or some group, why not blame the administration, not the foreign nurses.

Foreign Nurses coming to work in our Health Care facilities are the most serious threat to our professional security. They threaten our earning potential as well as are pushing us out of the Long Term Care environment. Kindred Healthcare is one of the biggest offenders. What are your views on this most serious matter now facing our profession.
