where there are women... DRAMA and fabrication. Tell someone you don't want to be a pediatric nurse because you can't deal with kids... then someone will make up lies about you being a axe murderer looking for kids (of course littler exaggeration here)... the fabrication of lies in workplace is amazing lol

Women have no monopoly on drama OR fabrication. Suggesting that they do is just plain wrong.

I am a new nursing student, it's only been a few quarters but the drama is awful! I am an outgoing positive person but I am finding myself nervous and afraid to talk to anyone because of the other students behavior. How did you guys handle nursing school drama?

Some of the meanest women I have encountered were in my Microbiology course. ..and the hospital I worked in. I filed quite a few lateral violence complaints that quieted it down. What's sad, is patients can sense when an environment is hostile or a caregiver is uneasy/ upset. This does not create a positive, team work environment.

One reason I am glad I started nursing school in my 40's. I am glad I had to deal with the drama everywhere I worked...it isn't just nursing that has drama. I learned to stay out of it, I am almost oblivious to it...or rather I have more important things to think about. I had no idea our class was having drama until I overheard the yelling in the teacher's office. I walked very quickly away from it...I didn't want to know about it. I like being oblivious to it :D I just treat everyone the way I want to be treated, study hard to get the best grades I can get, work on my weaknesses, attend to my family and pets, work my job to the best of my abilities. That is all I can do...I let the others worry about their lives and fight their battles...or fight the battles they created for themselves. I do help classmates who need help studying or help in clinicals but their troubles in life I stay away from.

I'm with Omniwei- I think it's easy enough to just ignore it. I'm almost 50 and am not yet a nursing student- starting in August. However, I imagine it's pretty much like any other situation with a lot of different personalities being in the same place at once, except the pressure of learning a whole lot in a short amount of time tends to magnify everything.

I work in a home for developmentally delayed adults and the drama there is crazy. Certain staff can't work with other staff, 3rd shift complains about 2nd, 2nd complains about 3rd and 1st complains about both lol. I'm friendly with just about everyone (except the ones who are lazy or aren't nice to the residents, I have no use for people like that). I've made one close friend and we team up for the Hoyer lifts and combative two assists. It makes work so much more fun to have someone to laugh with and share in some of the more disgusting or bizarre scenes we deal with. Other than that, I don't tell anyone anything I wouldn't want repeated and don't invest my emotions in my coworkers. I'll do the same in nursing school- I'm sure it's difficult enough without all that!
