StonyBrook ABSN: Class of 2021

Published

Hi all,

Thought I'd start a thread here so we can connect. I am in the process of taking my pre-reqs and plan to submit my application by the Oct 2019 deadline for the Summer 2020 start.

I'm planning on attending the Sept 19 info session on campus - anyone else going?

Honestly it stinks that they are making us wait for so long and that that was the response they gave you after calling but no reason to get upset over something that is out of your control... I would say just respond to other schools if you need/want and if you get an acceptance to SBU in the future you can change your plans appropriately if you chose to attend or not. I have paid to reserve my seat at one school so far and if I get into SBU I am forfeiting my seat to attend SBU... I just didn't want to wait for SBUs decision and got forbid it be a rejection and then also lose the opportunity to attend another school. It is a stressful decision/process but stressing over something that is out of your control is silly

I have not received offers from other schools. I understand where you’re coming from, but I don’t think it was silly for me to be upset/disappointed for a little bit after I spoke with them.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a lovely New Year! ❤️

On the undergraduate admissions website it says: "The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will be closed between December 25 and January 1. The Office will reopen on January 2."

I'm assuming this pertains to the nursing school as well. I was hoping to hear something today but it looks like that's off the table ?

Fingers crossed that it is either Thursday or Friday and they don't make us wait until even longer to find out.

Yeah I know lol but some schools just state the latest possible time they will send out acceptances, and a lot of the time they will send them before hand sooooooooo even though SBU is taking SO LONG, I am just trying to stay hopeful lol

It’s interesting because in two previous years, decisions were sent out between Christmas and New Year’s. I would still definitely not expect anything for awhile. When I called, they told me there was going to be a delay and that they are now expecting mid January. I’m thinking it’s going to be at least January 6th, probably the week of January 13th.

Yea I thought about that too because they got acceptances December 28th. But also this year the Dean of the Nursing School changed... so because of that we can't really rely on past years much at all because the new dean could have changed it all up... I just try to stay hopeful everyday that we might hear... but I also try to keep myself occupied and keep my mind off of it as much as possible to not overly stress myself out, but man am I sick of waiting too lol

One year they received acceptances Dec. 28th and one year it was the 27th. I know there is a new dean; I mentioned the timeline of past years to suggest that the office might not have been closed today. On the Health Sciences Student Services website, I believe it says they are closing early on NYE.

I don’t believe the delay in decisions being released was intentional or anticipated. When I spoke to the student services office, they shared that they were originally following the same timeline as previous years, but were only recently notified that it was going to be longer.

I’m going to assume it’s not going to be this week and try not to obsessively check my email for a few days, although I know I’ll probably fail in that ?
