StonyBrook ABSN: Class of 2021

Published

Hi all,

Thought I'd start a thread here so we can connect. I am in the process of taking my pre-reqs and plan to submit my application by the Oct 2019 deadline for the Summer 2020 start.

I'm planning on attending the Sept 19 info session on campus - anyone else going?

Hey NurseDan,

I don’t know about you. But I want to start working as a nurse asap. There are so many opportunities working as a nurse. I will love to do global brigades but I can’t bc you need to be a nurse or a doctor. Yes, there are some premed students who do it but you will be more productive as a nurse and get to contribute more.

I also need to give my official decision to a school.. I start towards the end of January if I go there, but there is so much to do before I start.. there’s only so much I can get done at this point before spending money on things I won’t need if I get offered sbu ? super anxious over here

Has anyone requested an extension from other schools and been approved?

I actually just asked a different school for an extension so that i could wait for Stony Brook's decision and they rejected it, so sadly i had to drop hundreds of dollars in a deposit to secure my seat ?

I had an extension, but it was only a couple of weeks. I had to pay the tuition deposit to secure my seat in the program. But now it's getting so close to the start date (3rd week of Jan) that they need me to set up my payment options (I am taking out loans). So I need to sit down and do it tomorrow. I procrastinated it this long in hopes I would hear back from SBU this week but it doesn't seem that will happen....:(

I am in a similar situation now, and completely new to loans. Do you still need to pay out of pocket? I had to complete a CSS profile.

I wish I could answer your questions! I know nothing about loans either. I never took loans out before for my first degree. My dad is helping me because he is more familiar with the process. Whatever school you need them for probably has a financial advisor! They may be able to answer your questions!

It will be closed. Just enjoy your holidays.

The office is open today, Monday, and Tuesday, although they are closing early on Christmas Eve.

Jess5 is right, though; try to enjoy the holidays! Although I definitely know how stressful the wait is!
