Stony Brook BSN - Summer/Fall 2011 Applicants

ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... :D ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ... :(

but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).

anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?

I submitted my application on friday, and can't help but question whether my essay was strong enough or whether i forgot anything. No one understands how i feel, figured i should come here for some moral support. I hope decisions are made before christmas, would hate to be this worried during the holidays.

Soo I just got my SOLAR info and it says that my transcripts and recommendations are not received?? I understand why my transcripts might not be posted but my recs? This is making me so nervous. :/

the reason ur status isnt updated is because they dont start filing your paperwork until your application is submitted. So even if you sent the transcripts back in september they wont post til roughly 10 days after. I know its nerve wracking and they really should say it somewhere in the guidelines that this is the case but im sure ur fine they get 10000's of transcripts im sure they kno how to keep them in check! best of luck!

ok so i got an email and my solar login was re-activated, i log in and see student information. cool. :smokin:

i go in and to my surprise i see a link for this years application and last years. click on this year's and not surprised to notice that nothing is reflected as received, not even the recommendations. i'm again not surprised, i expect this will update within the next week or so.

so out of curiousity i click on last years application link and to my shock i notice that half of my transcripts were showing as "not received" :eek::eek::eek: ... if i remember correctly, these were all at one point showing as received, so what the heck happened?? now i can't help to wonder if this had something to do with my waitlisting .... :confused: ... now i feel like i have to be more vigilant about my file. ack!

i hope you meant no one around you understands how you feel, because i can assure you we here all feel your pain! i may feel better every time i edited my essay but once it is submitted i am never 100% confident about it. i always feel like i should have done more. it's all in their hands now, so find relaxation in the fact that you did all you could.

decisions in dec? nope! you best prepare now to just forget about this application and enjoy the holidays. decisions won't go out until at least mid-january. i got my letter for last summer's class at the end of january 2010.

oh and for those of you who read this when i wrote it before, i did notice that many people who live closer to stony brook did get letters before i did, also due to the fact that i am out of state. but there were many that complained of slow slow slow mail delivery even in nearby port jeff so i guess there are no guarantees!

I am also applying to 3 schools in FL, where I currently reside. Stony Brook is the only school I applied to in NY, I would like to go back to my home state :) but that is the only school that seems to be the one I am willing to attend. I did consider Binghamton but did not apply due to that chemistry thing and I should have looked into it more. Buffalo would have also been good but they require patho as a prereq and no one around here offers that, besides I was not going to take one course like that for one school. Downstate is another one I considered but I am not liking that program. Notice all of these are state schools, trying to stay away from the private $$$ ones, even though I will be nonresident it will still be cheaper at state schools.

I still have my old emails from last year. It took about 2 days after submission for me to get my SOLAR ID. I actually know my SOLAR ID, it should be the same as last year. Will try logging in again and see what happens.

I was thinking about applying to some schools in the Ft.Lauderdale/Miami area but damn are they expensive!!! I am also applying to University of Toronto and York University in Toronto (where I'm originally from). I can't stand the outrageous costs for education...it's absolutely ridiculous!!!

i submitted mine yesterday... and i got an email today telling me my SOLAR is activated. I went on and check my application status (as everyone does...) the only thing that is listed as "Received" is my Stony Brook undergrad transcript... and everything else are Not Received... the thing is, I handed in my transcript from another school yesterday in person... and I told the lady my stony brook ID# and that im applying to the 1-yr program... she wrote it down on my transcript too!! i guess they just need time to update SOLAR? oh btw does anyone know if Stony Brook Alumni get priority? :p

I am thinking your transcript just went into the big pile! So walking it in prob did not help. Don't know about alumni preferences.

I'm guessing that they got a lot of calls/emails from people asking about the status of their applications because I got a email saying that it would take them until the 19th to have everyone's application status updated

I got the same exact email last year. I am sure its part of their automatic emailing thing.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the great information. I tried to submit my application tonight (Nov.2) but the essay wouldn't upload. I started @ 11:30 and it didn't go through until 12:03, so I can't submit my application anymore. I remember either reading about this problem on Allnurses or hearing about it at a seminar. Anyone hear anything like that? I'm going to the office first thing in the morning. I'm freaking out! Arggh, I'm so stupid.

I never had a problem uploading anything to my application ... why did you wait until the very last minute though? I get the feeling you and a LOT of other people were jamming the servers trying to get applications in at the same time. I had a similar last-minute experience once just a few months ago and I learned to make personal deadlines days in advance of the real one, that way if problems arise I had buffer time. Good luck in trying to resolve this with SB!

LOL...Paco you're too much!! What email link??? Also, did you apply to both programs? If so, did you submit the same recommendations and same essay?
