Stony Brook BSN - Summer/Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... :D ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ... :(

but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).

anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?

Okay, I'm in... I have been following you guys since Paco kicked this thread off. The waiting is dreadful:eek: But I'm patiently waiting for the great news!

I also had to change my plans with the delayed date for SB decisions. Im now in the 2nd week of my ADN program which was my backup school.. I decided to drop the class I was registered for (my last pre-req for SBs accelerated program, a bio course) so I could at least get 75% of the tuition for that class back. My plan is to complete the semester at the ADN program, if I dont get into Stony Ill just keep going with that program and only have 3 semesters left. If I get into Stony Ill have to take my last prereq in the summer session end of May-end of June and hopefully be able to finish before the accelerated program starts at the end of June.

I feel for everyone who has taken a financial hit due to the delayed date given by SB. Lets try to stay optimistic and hopefully we'll all get in, become RNs in 12 months, and that financial loss will be long forgotten. Hang in there everyone, only a few more weeks. Luckily february is a short month!

Have not been here in awhile, just frustrated about having to wait again too. I really needed to know by 1/31 and now I have to make a real tough decision. This is killing me. If I decide to wait to find out about stonybrook in Feb then I will be wasting money in a course which starts 1/31. Or i can forget about Stonybrook all together, save money and go with my second choice, which is 11 month LPN. It kills me to do LPN and take a step back, but in a positive note: 11 months LPN, still work part time and keep benefits which I need with a kid at home, got a LPN job lined up already making more than i do now and the job will pay for me to go back and get my RN.

UGHHH! or wait to hear back from stonybrook and if i get in, quit my job, no benefits for me and my family, but in 1 yr I would be an RN.

And of course that is if I get in.....

DECISIONS, DECISIONS, MY HEAD IS GOING TO EXPLODE.

And, I did not apply to any other RN programs, because with a family SBU was the only realistic program close by and my parents agreed to help with babysitting and finances if needed.

Dubra, wow ... I have tried very hard to place myself in your shoes and I have to be honest: I would definitely go with the 2nd choice. I say this because what resonates with me is the fact that you have benefits that affect your child. You really don't want to take that away from him/her. I get nervous knowing that a child is uninsured even for a day. Anything can happen, and kids get sick all the time. Plus, you have a guaranteed job waiting for you as an LPN and they will pay for your RN. All good points in your favor. Plus, remember that SBU has an RN to BSN program so you don't have to give up on Stony Brook forever. I rather get in the system now when I know I can rather than wait to see if I can later. Good luck!!!!

Hey all, just joined the thread...

Seems like everyone is taking a hit with the delay. I've had to put quite a few backup plans into motion because of it. Worried and hoping the time flies by.

WELCOME, y'all! :D ... Glad to see you all join in! This is serious comfort in numbers! I wonder how many more are out there still lurking ... we don't bite, come join the party!

:dancgrp:

This delay has me going crazy!! I did not sign up for add'l classes that would be needed for entry in other programs, and most deadlines have now past. After moving my family out here to SB (for other reasons also, but SBU a major factor), I have been really counting on getting in.

I have some back up plans, but none of them are what I want to do...AAAHHHH!!!!

:grn:

Ok, back to the waiting now- trying to be patient.

Hi Everyone,

I have been following this since I applied to the accelerated program, I just couldn't figure out how to activate my account on this site haha. Like all of you I too am disappointed in the wait until late Feb, but what can we do!

I live in California and am currently in my last semester at California State University, Chico. Hearing back about Stony Brook would mean that instead of my 9 classes (24 units!) I would only need 5 to graduate. I was missing some prereqs so I took on a lot and I was planning on dropping a few if I found out that I didn't get in, but looks like I'm stuck with the classes as school started this week.

Imagine the stress of not knowing if you will be moving across the country or not in just a few months, pretty darn stressful.

Well I'm glad I am not the only one constantly thinking about it and I am glad to finally be a part of the thread! good luck to all!:redpinkhe

I was thinking about this just yesterday, how in about 3 months my life will be taking a radical turn somewhere - unnerved a bit with the fact that I have no idea where that will go. My work contract expires May 1 and I don't intend on renewing it. I could be preparing to move to New York to attend Stony Brook or another school, or I could be staying here in Florida but moving to Jacksonville or Orlando to attend schools there. It's kind of exciting but still it's also a bit scary.

Oh, BTW ... welcome to the thread!!

alot of people creeping on this thread! lol those of you who are still lurking out there, come join uss!!! lol

I kinda forgot about stony brook... tried not to put my hopes up... and i was busy studying for my TEAS exam for downstate... and its restaurant week!! just had some nice dinner with a bunch of friends! and when we were leaving, the snow storm kicked us mad hard... i had to walk my own trail back home from the station.... lucky that i love fluffy snow! :D but the shoveling is gonna be bad tmr...

Paco: i hateee my jobbb too!! not because of what i do, cuz i work at peds and i love kids! (sometimes) but i really dont like my supervisor cuz shes just soo bad at management stuff... omgg i cant wait to get back to school fulltime!!

Hang in there everyone!!!

Hi everybody,

I just saw this post the other day, and I'm glad to see that we're all in the same boat on this long wait. My mother's friend is finishing her accelerated program this year and told me that she recieved the news on January of last year. Now, that I read a couple of these posts I'm reassured that the school hasn't sent anything yet.

Hi everyone! I finally retrieved my password and like olibhenry I've been following this thread too! this wait is making me so anxious, i check email, snail mail, etc. every chance i get. but reading this thread has made me less crazy knowing that no one has heard yet either and this whole END OF FEB thing that they emailed us about is nuts! anyways, did anyone else also apply to bing's BAT program? I hear some ppl got decisions already in the beg of Jan. I have not yet received anything yet. SBU is my first choice though! I don't want it to get any colder than this, it snowed over 2 feet today!

I applied to binghamton's BAT program, I haven't heard anything yet either. I called them like a week ago and they said they were "working on it" and that they mailed some already.

Good luck Marinoh!

Hey Zee,

Thanks a bunch!!! I wish you the very best also, its a pity I wont be joining you guys.

Hey Paco,

Looks like am far behind on the thread, have been quite busy this past 2dys. Just got a teaching schedule on top of my current job. Anyway, I can see you have been a bit stressed out, I can imagine how it can be sometimes, but you have to stay strong now, because you are almost there. I have no doubt in my mind that you will just be fine, SBU would definitely send you an acceptance letter this year, they have no choice this time around.

So pls don't stress out too much, this is not the time to get discouraged at all. Every time I read your post, I admire that spirit and courage in you, that keeps us all going. So pls don't disappoint us, we don't want this thread to crash at this crucial moment. LOl!!!!

Jokes apart, I understand your concern, but at the same time I need you to have a positive outlook towards the present situation at hand. All will definitely be well with you, and I haven't relented in my prayers also.

And also to the rest of the SBU family members, worry not, because the lord is in full control of everything. February is next wk, so in another 2wks or so the decision would be out.
