ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ...
but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).
anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?
Thanks Cas89! i just want this wait to be over! I want to know already! My friend's friend heard from bing already... I think he applied back in sept/oct so that's why he got his decision so early..? have no clue. I hope we all hear good news soon!
I still regret not having applied to Bing. I believe they may have far less applicants than SBU. I may be wrong however ... perhaps the Bing admissions is just more efficient than SBU? We shall never know!
yea, i have no idea! where else did u apply to paco? and also, where did u get into but declined?
Other than SBU, applied to Univ of Central Florida, Univ of North Florida, Univ of Miami (this one I have already declined to attend even if I get in - scholarship app and decisions don't coincide well for me), and Cochran School of Nursing (which is an ADN program). I was accepted to Drexel Univ last year for the Spring 2011 class, but I could not swing that cost ... besides, could not attend school in the spring anyway (they only enroll ABSN in spring and fall).
ohh! yea, i'm worried about cost too but I figured I'll just pay them off when I get a job and it'll be no biggie! the cochran school of nursing in near NYC isn't it? I hope we all hear some great news soon! SBU's decision is not too far away...(though I hope when they say end of feb they mean mid feb) =D

Well, considering how much trouble new grads are having finding jobs, it's an extended concern so I don't want to borrow gobs of money to attend school and then worry about not having work when I graduate. I know I will have to take out SOME loans but I don't want to overdo it. Hence my decision not to attend Miami and Drexel which were outrageously expensive and sporifice on free money it seems. Also, I intend on going to do my MSN or DNP down the line so I want to have leeway for that.
Yes, Cochran is in Yonkers, NY. My concern is doing an ADN and being at a disadvantage for work with a market flooded with new grad BSNs. I don't "need" to work in NYC right away, I would be perfectly happy working somewhere nearby as long as I don't have to fly or do some major travelling to see my SO and family in New York. 2-3 hours from the city I can live with!
Do you have a break in the 1 year program at any point, or is it 52 straight weeks.
We had a 10 day vacation at the end of the summer session, and a three week vacation at the end of fall, followed by three weeks where we had classes only twice a week. From now until mid-April we're in school full time, four to five days a week, and after mid-April we continue clinicals for about two months.

I work with kids too to some degree, but I work more with their teachers, supervising them in my present job. Dealing with them is hit or miss but what frustrates me most is working with the school districts. The staff at that level can be downright psychotic -- and compounded with the constraints of a federally-funded program, you can imagine that procedures and paperwork alone can drive one mad
... I have taught these kids before as well, it is how I started doing this work .. it was fun working with them but the pay was not that good and I always felt I could personally help them more but in a different way.
My goal is to work in the NICU or at a minimum in pediatrics until I can get there. It's where I feel my niche is. That's what I say now, perhaps I will find another love, but I want the chance to prove or disprove that.
One year ago TODAY in fact is when I received my waitlist letter from SBU for 2010, so yes -- everyone was getting decisions left and right at this time last year. Apparently a surge of applications greater than last year has elongated the review process and extended the wait. Most all of us got emails to this effect about a week ago. Did you get one of these from SBU?
I feel good knowing someone out there is rooting for me ... for ME! ... I am hanging in there, doing pretty well actually this week. Work never fails to help me forget this waiting process during the week. I check my mailbox every day with the expectation that there is NOTHING there for me related to school, so that way I don't set myself up for disappointments, especially when I also know not to expect anything for weeks. Now, when people start reporting that they are getting decisions, my anxiety will start to spike and I will have to make sure I keep a level head. That's also especially important for me because lots of you in NY and closest to SBU will get notices faster than someone like me who is out of state. I mean, that's what happened last year. Then again, we can only hope SOLAR is just as telling as it was last year too.
Positive thoughts!!!
