Hello everyone!
I applied to Stony Brook's Basic (2-year) BSN program 3 weeks a go and thought it may be helpful to start up a forum.
If you are:
currently applying or plan on applying, a former applicant, a current SBU student, I'd love to hear from you!
Has everyone finished their perquisites? Does anyone else have a not so competitive GPA (like me)? Does anyone know who is considered a competitive applicant? Where is everyone else applying?
I look forward to speaking with everyone and hopefully entering the Fall '12 class together!

Hello! Can any previous students tell me: are the scrub tops generic unisex or women and men's? We got the email on Friday to submit our sizes. Do they run big or small? Thanks!
Their red scrub tops with school logo were ordered in the women's style due to the # of pockets it has, which you will actually need (not that it matters for the guys, as it looks unisex anyway). Specifically, the brand is Cherokee and style # is 4700 in case you want to try it on at a local uniform store or find a size chart online. Women will be OK with sizing, but for the MEN, this style tends to run smaller than the unisex sizes. I am L in unisex scrub tops, but in this style I had to get XL.
Hope that helps!
Does anybody know if the white scrub pants have to be a certain style? I got one pair of Cherokee pants (they're very plain) and one pair of scrub pants by Koi. The Koi scrub pants have cargo pockets on the sides and the woman at the store told me she knew SCCC nursing students weren't allowed to wear scrub pants with cargo pockets but she thinks Stony Brook allows it. If anyone who knows can help I'd greatly appreciate it! :)
No you can't wear any pockets they told me I went up to the school and got my uniforms the other day..the pants they made me get are the landau brand regular fit with the stitching in the front or the relaxed fit without the stitching..I wish we could wear the ones with te cargo pockets they are so much nicer
i`m 130 lb,5 ft.6" usually wear S or M .I just bought pair of SBU embroidered tops, have to tell you -S size was like M on me!So, after trying in fitting room I end up buying XS.Pants can have pockets, there are no restrictions on pants.Extra pockets will be always useful during clinicals to throw your phone, light pen or maybe even mini snack:) Look for comfortable shoes.Hope this helps .Good luck!
That 2 credit elective you are talking about for the 2 year BSN students can be done many ways. The first winter period they offer some clinical like classes, but the senior's usually gobble them up. They there are things like an end of life course or directed studies (read a book write a paper type class) etc. This summer they had the SBUH Internship which is a paid gig but you pay for 2 credits so you knock it out while working (have to apply and be selected for this. I just to a Complementary/Alternative Treatment class this summer, it was one day in class (mostly demos), read a little, take a quiz, and final, pretty easy, there are others like this too.
