Hello everyone!
I applied to Stony Brook's Basic (2-year) BSN program 3 weeks a go and thought it may be helpful to start up a forum.
If you are:
currently applying or plan on applying, a former applicant, a current SBU student, I'd love to hear from you!
Has everyone finished their perquisites? Does anyone else have a not so competitive GPA (like me)? Does anyone know who is considered a competitive applicant? Where is everyone else applying?
I look forward to speaking with everyone and hopefully entering the Fall '12 class together!

Regarding CARGO PANTS: Who told you all that you can't wear white cargo scrub pants? That's just not true, plenty of my classmates had them (including myself) and they are actually very handy for the pockets you need. Trust me, pockets are crucial when you are a nurse, lol -- I ONLY buy cargo scrub pants now (Landau 8555 for men being my favorites). They are not as strict with the uniform as you think. YES, you need to wear the scrub tops from the bookstore, but NO you don't have to buy any other part of your uniform from there (I certainly did not). Also, don't be afraid to buy white sneakers if you're not too thrilled with nursing shoes. No one is going to kill you if your sneakers have a little gray streak along the bottom sole. If it's most all white, that's fine.
Keep this in mind as you start your studies @ SBU: Ask yourself, is this something I can get off-campus for cheaper? If so, do that. The bookstore and the school try to make you buy things on-campus so they can make more $, that's it. Don't get me wrong, you WILL get an awesome nursing education @ SBU, but if you're strapped on cash as I was when I was a student there, don't be shy to look for the deals!
