I saw a posting on Monster today about an 11 day STNA training class at Bath Manor in Akron, OH. Is anyone else thinking of going to this?
I only applied to one school (Kent State) for their accelerated BNS program, but if I don't get in, I'm thinking doing the STNA thing would be a good idea to gain experience until the next school deadlines come around...
Test? What test??? I already have scrubs from working at my brother's massage shop. Burlington have scrub sets for under $15.00... Walmart is really expensive because you have to buy them separately. You can check Conway at Arlington Plaza. They have scrub tops for only $3.99 and pants for under $5.00.
Can you wear Crocs or would they have to be tennis shoes? I have really cute Crocs from Burlington for only $4.99. I love shopping... hence that's why I need a new career!
By the way... what time are the classes and what day do you start? I'm still debating if I should go for it right away or wait until August session. I really do not want to wait until August because I start pre-nursing classes on the 24th. I want to get the STNA stuff out of the way first. Either way, I'm going to see them tomorrow and get more information. Oh... and have fun shopping for scrubs. I think that's where all my tips from doing massages went. LOL
The July class is from the 9th to the 23rd, no weekends though. The classes are from 8am to 4pm. I was thinking of taking it later, but I just want to get it over with. Where are you taking your prenursing courses? I'm in my last pre nursing course at Kent (organic chem)...take my fiinal friday! Then I'm applying for their Fall Accelerated BSN program.
You can also go to www.mymedcert.com they have classes for STNA total $475.00 you can make payments to. You don't have to pay the whole balance up front. On there website it has a list of all the calsses day, eve, weekend and times and everything. I am taking the class on the 15th of this month which is a two week day class. Also, on there website it says 250.00 down and then other $225.00 by the second week of class, but they will work with you if you don't have the full amount or the 250 down - you can still get in the class. good luck
Whoaaaaaa 8am-4pm... that's going to be a long day. Their August session probably will start the 2nd week too... I might as well start now so I can get it done. Not to mention the fact that we can be study buddies.
I am starting at Stark State this fall and hopefully be able to apply for their ADN nursing program. I know there's a long waitlist but was told after being accepted into the program, I will be able to take all the non-nursing courses first so I can focus on the nursing courses during the program. I looked at UA and Kent State but the tuition is way too high. I'll see how it goes and will probably take an RN-BSN program later on in life once I become an RN. It would be nice to just go for a bachelor degree but who can resist the $127 per credit hour at Stark State. Too bad all they have are associate programs. This is a big step for me... graduated from high school in '97 and just now going to college. Took me 12 years to decide what I wanted to do with my life besides being a wife and mommy.
I'll go to Bath Manor tomorrow morning and hopefully the class is not full yet. By the way... have you checked out AlterCare... http://www.altercareonline.com/joinanawardwinningteam It says they provide training to become an STNA. I'm going to call and see if they have any classes available anytime soon. Maybe it will save us $450. I'll let you know what I find out and if I signed up with Bath Manor or not.
I emailed Altercare too, but haven't heard back. =/ I graduated High School in '97 too, then went to college, got a degree I couldn't use (Economics), then got a mortuary science degree a few years later and I've been a funeral director for awhile, but it's kinda burnt me out. And there are no jobs for funeral directors in Ohio! So I thought nursing would be fun and more interesting (working with people)! I looked at UA, but they're next class doesn't start until 2010. If I don't get into Kent, I might apply to Tri C or see about Akron Institute's ADN program. I heard it doesn't matter if you have an ADN or RN degree when you start, you still get paid the same and treated the same. It's only if you want to further your career later on, that having the BSN is a good idea. So we'll see, if I can't get into the BSN program, I think I'll try other ways of getting my RN now.
Ok, 2nd to last day of organic chemistry....can't wait to be done!!
Wow barleany78.. I was just thinking the other day about how funeral directors will never go out of business. Did you ever consider opening up your own funeral home? I wonder what all is involved to open up your own.
So you graduated in '97 too? That means you are my age. I turned 30 in December and one of my goals before I turned 30 was to go to college... guess I'm a year behind. I started looking at schools in the spring after my husband got laid off in Oct. and was told he was able to go to school for free because of the TAA (Trade Agreement Acts) Apparently, the company that laid him off is sending the work overseas so he actually qualifies for extra benefits and one is going to school/training for free. He hasn't decided on what he wants to do yet. He's always worked in factories. I want him to get a degree since it's going to be paid for. He's just thinking of doing CNC training. As for me, I started looking at massage therapy because I am already doing relaxation massages part-time. Figure it would probably be nice to be licensed so I can do therapeutic massages too. Then I figured I didn't want to do massages for the rest of my life, there's really no place for advancements. I also looked into Physical Therapy Assistant or Occupational Therapy Assistant too. Also no room for advancements except to become the therapist. Then I looked at nursing programs and read so much about the different types of nurses. How you can always advance in your career and that is what I want. A challenging career with room for advancements.
Well... gotta start with STNA so I better get dressed and head out to Bath Manor and Traditions at Bath Rd. Talk to you soon!
