STNA training class at Bath Manor

Published

I saw a posting on Monster today about an 11 day STNA training class at Bath Manor in Akron, OH. Is anyone else thinking of going to this?

I only applied to one school (Kent State) for their accelerated BNS program, but if I don't get in, I'm thinking doing the STNA thing would be a good idea to gain experience until the next school deadlines come around...

i actually got my STNA last july. I took the classes at Bath Manor. It's a very easy course, though some of it seems very boring and unnecessary! the state test is offered at Bath Manor though, it was good to feel comfortable in the classroom on the day of the state test. i passed the first time with no problems.

ps. even if you do get accepted to kent's program, you could work as an STNA while in school and it also provides a good background and skills for nursing school. Good Luck!

Thanks for the info! Do they charge for the class? Are you currently working as an STNA? I think it would be a very quick way to get into the healthcare business and seems like a great job.

yes, they do charge. i couldn't find a place that didn't charge. the early-bird fee was $450, the regular one $500. It will also cost you to take the state test. It was $96 last summer, i doubt it has changed. i'm working at Edwin Shaw PRN (on-call, no set schedule) right now. its usually very difficult to get into the hospitals, but you can do everything else with your STNA.

Do you know the average wage of STNA's around Akron?

Thanks!

i'm really not sure what the average wage is for an stna in akron. i suppose it depends on where you work (LTC facility, home health, hospital). i would try calling places you're interested in and asking.

I'm hoping to get into the July class. It says to wear scrubs the first day. What kind did you wear? Can you just go out and buy any kind? Thanks!

i was in the may class last year and i wore scrubs that i had bought, mostly at walmat. you can wear prints or solids.

Great! Thanks for the help. I had no idea. What was the class like? A lot of doing things in front of everyone? Mainly textbook stuff?

the class was very easy, to the point that i felt like i was wasting my time for the majority of the duration. we had some days where we were only in the classroom and some mixed between the classroom and the floor. there is a day or two towards the end of the class that you more or less shadow an aide on the floor and one day when you have a patient or two to take care of virtually on your own (very easy, don't stress). the majority of the information/skill is very common-sense based. good luck with it!! (if you have any questions about the state test, let me know)

I just called and left a message. Hopefully someone will call me back tomorrow. I really want to get trained to be an STNA before going to nursing school. I just want to make sure it is something I want to do and also get some experience. There is also Traditions at Bath Road offering a training program. The recording I received says to apply in person, so that is what I will do tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Are you trying to find out info on applying? I went and got an info packet from them awhile back. You have to fill out the registration and pay $450 by June 12 (if after June 12, it's %00) The money has to be in cash, certified check or money order. They also require a two step TB test, physical and background check (but you don't have to get this done before you pay. I have my physical/tb test appt for June 17. And it gives a list of various places to get the background check. I called one place and it's only $30, so that's good!

Hope you sign up, it'll be nice to sort of know someone else in class!
