  1. the class was very easy, to the point that i felt like i was wasting my time for the majority of the duration. we had some days where we were only in the classroom and some mixed between the classroom and the floor. there is a day or two towards the end of the class that you more or less shadow an aide on the floor and one day when you have a patient or two to take care of virtually on your own (very easy, don't stress). the majority of the information/skill is very common-sense based. good luck with it!! (if you have any questions about the state test, let me know)
  2. i was in the may class last year and i wore scrubs that i had bought, mostly at walmat. you can wear prints or solids.
  3. i'm really not sure what the average wage is for an stna in akron. i suppose it depends on where you work (LTC facility, home health, hospital). i would try calling places you're interested in and asking.
  4. yes, they do charge. i couldn't find a place that didn't charge. the early-bird fee was $450, the regular one $500. It will also cost you to take the state test. It was $96 last summer, i doubt it has changed. i'm working at Edwin Shaw PRN (on-call, no set schedule) right now. its usually very difficult to get into the hospitals, but you can do everything else with your STNA.
  5. i actually got my STNA last july. I took the classes at Bath Manor. It's a very easy course, though some of it seems very boring and unnecessary! the state test is offered at Bath Manor though, it was good to feel comfortable in the classroom on the day of the state test. i passed the first time with no problems. ps. even if you do get accepted to kent's program, you could work as an STNA while in school and it also provides a good background and skills for nursing school. Good Luck!
  6. i am actually planning on pursuing an RN,BSN. i have most of my prereq's done at UA, but cannot get into the program. i am looking to get my LPN and then do the LPN to RN program since i already have the credits to get my BSN at Akron.
  7. I'm currently working in Akron as an STNA and going to school full-time. I'm just wondering if anyone has gone to NIT (national institute of technology) in Cuyahoga Falls for either the LPN or RN program. Did you like it there? Has anyone gone anywhere else they would recommend? I've been at UA for almost 4 years and need to take a different route. I just really don't want to be disappointed/lied to again
  8. i guess it would depend on where you're at. there are a lot of postings for part time jobs in my area. if nothing else, contact the places you want to work at and ask.
  9. i guess its different in every state. where are you?? just make sure that during the test you verbalize everything you are doing. that was the hardest part for me. ohh, and remembering to pull the privacy curtain and lowering the bed back down to its lowest position.
  10. stow-glen does offer the classes, but that is almost in hudson. bath manor would be a lot closer to cleveland. i've also heard that the teaching is better at bath manor. but they do offer classes once a month as well. the prices and length of time in class is the same.
  11. it would be a bit of a drive, but bath manor in fairlawn offers the classes once a month. they are two weeks long and the teachers are very thorough! you can also take the state test there. the red cross in cleveland does offer nurse aid training, but the information i found said it was very expensive and i believe its 8 weeks long. the fairlawn classes only cost me 500. if you register early enough its only 450. hope this helps and good luck!!
  12. i've applied to a couple of places, one being akron city hospital. but i'm waiting to hear back. i'm hoping to find a place that will work around my school schedule.
  13. the test proctor is very VERY nice and helpful! she explains everything and answers any questions you have. as far as the working sink goes... you go to the bathroom to do the handwashing. then you have to pretend to wash your hands at the fake sink in the room for a couple of seconds when you are performing the other four tasks. if you need water for something like a bedbath, she has a pitcher of water in the room that you pour into the basin. my advice is to ALWAYS pull the privacy curtain and remember to lower the bed! the only thing i forgot to do during my skills test was return the bed to its lowest position after making an unoccupied bed. silly, but whatever. i passed. anyway, if you have any other questions don't hesitate to send me a message. good luck!! (and p.s. don't stress yourself out:banghead:! its not that bad!)
  14. yeah, i took the classes at bath manor. i actually was able to take the class that started on may 8. i just got my results back earlier this week from the state test...AND I PASSED!! when did you take the classes there??
  15. if you're talking about CNA classes, i wore scrubs everyday even if we weren't on the floor. but i guess it might depend on where you're taking your classes. check with the facility. i didn't have to wear a certain color...we could wear prints. so better to be safe than sorry i guess. good luck! i just got certified in ohio and its an amazing feeling!!!
