  1. I recently got accepted to an ADN program and start nursing school Feb' 2009. I am a CNA already and since I know some of the basic nursing (maybe thats still overestimating). I want to take General Chemistry II on top of my 10 unit Fundamental Nursing (this includes pharmacology). My main goal is to be a "mid-level practitioner" and both NP (UCLA/UCI) and PA programs I am looking at require this class. Is it a ood idea to do it on the first semester? Has any1 done this or have advice?
  2. Hello everyone, I am wondering if there are many part time jobs out there. Since I am still in school for next fall and only have 3 available days to work (W-F-Su), do you think it will be easy to find work? I don't mind working at a LTC or Hospital as long as I get a job for these days. Anybody here only work 3 eight hour shift? How did you get the job? Was it hard to get the job? I don't want to work 12 hr shift.... maybe with one day... anybody have advice.
  3. I am currently taking a Basic EKG class at a CC. I was wondering if there is a difference between an EKG Technician and a Monitor Technician. Because in the course description it states I will be able to apply for a Monitor Tech but fails to mention anything about an EKG Tech. Also, so far in the class we are being taught how to interpret EKGs...is that normal? I have a friend who is an EKG tech but she only records EKG and not interpret. So do monitor tech not record and only interpret...im confused...
  4. I am finally checking this thread for replies. Thanks everyone for the advices. Funny the last post mentioned PCT. I am currently taking a Basic EKG class and will start phlebotomy course next month...I am also gonna volunteer at a hospital..Hopefully then I'll be a strong candidate. Does anyone know if taking seperate EKG course and Phleb course you could still be hired as a PCT when the course weren't specific for PCT position???
  5. I am going to take a CNA course and apparently it is LTC/Nursing home focus and the school themselves admit that they don't have any graduates that find jobs at the hospital/acute setting (fresh out of school). Perhaps the graduates didn't try hard enough. Any one have tips to get hired as a recent CNA grad at a hospital/acute setting?
  6. Hello. I am a Male Pre-nursing student. I just need to take microbiology during the summer and then im done w/ the pre-reqs . I am currently in an MA program but have the option to quit since i havent paid (cost is $1,400 compared to other programs this very cheap). With that said if i continue with the MA course then i could only work at nights, part time and will need fleixibilty since school schedule will change. I know it really difficult to find a job. Should I continue? Is there a lot of opportunities for MA's in CA (specifically LA and SFV) Any body here who was an MA have any advice? I dont continue this course I weant to take a CNA course to work get some health experience...
  7. I notice that there are a lot of post on here of a nurses not satisfied with their careers. Maybe its just the first year. I'm unaware if these post are coming from a female or male. I know it doesn't matter...but out of curiosity do the guys deal with the same thing. For some reason I feel like nursing has a lot of non-feminine (messy, disgusting) stuff and with that said I feel like guys wouldn't necessary be disappointed/unsatisfied. So are you "male" nurses satisfied? Is the first yr always bad? This post was not intended to offend anyone...if it did i apologize.
  8. I forgot to mention its for BSN program at University (CSULB)
  9. How often do people get accepted to the nursing program when you still have a lot of classes left to finish at ur community college? The thing is the application process is so early..I'll be finished with all my GE's and Core classes b4 nursing school starts but i have to apply way before i can even show that i will be enrolled for the remaining classes.( I have to apply November when nursing school starts Late august i believe). By November I'll have 7 classes left (2 which are core nursing classes)....Will they even consider me if i have all these classes left (most are GE's)? Anyone done this b4?? Or will have to wait for the next application process (next semester's)??
  10. Thanks for response guys. I'm not sure if it makes a difference but i notice many of you put a&p 1, the class i enrolled for is just anatomy separated from physiology. Is that easier or harder? And I will only be working two days in the weekend with no family to raise (im 19). Is there anything to get me started with just anatomy (without physiology) so that i can ease this semester?
  11. Hello guys I'm new to this ...and very thankful for this forum. Well my question is, since i hear that anatomy and microbiology is hard, is taking these two classes together in the same semester too difficult? I will also be taking a Developmental Psychology class, a CNA course, and a Clincal Medical Assisting course as well. I feel like it will be a fun semester but just a little worried if i will make it. Is this overbearing? Has anyone done this(or similar and succeeded)? Any advice (recommendations)?
