STNA training class at Bath Manor

Published

I saw a posting on Monster today about an 11 day STNA training class at Bath Manor in Akron, OH. Is anyone else thinking of going to this?

I only applied to one school (Kent State) for their accelerated BNS program, but if I don't get in, I'm thinking doing the STNA thing would be a good idea to gain experience until the next school deadlines come around...

I called Altercare. You have to go in and fill out an application, then they call you to interview, and then if they accept you, you get trained for free with them. So I filled out an app. Now I'm not sure whether to sign up and pay for the Bath Manor class, or wait to see if I get into this one!

Eeeek... I'm in the same situation as you but with Traditions at Bath Rd. I went there after picking up a registration at Bath Manor. I had to fill out an application right there and got interviewed. The person that interviewed me liked me, but she still has to pass it on to her upper management, they have to contact my references and previous employments... blah blah blah. The training is also 11 days. It's $200 for the training, however once you get certified there is a chance of offering you a job. If you accept the job, they will refund the $200.

I don't know if I should wait or just go for Bath Manor. I wanted to get everything done before I start my pre-nursing classes in the fall. Decisions... decisions...

If you decide not to go for Bath Manor, you can always check out Traditions at Bath Rd. It is between State Rd and Graham Rd. The people there are very nice. But if you decide to go with Bath Manor, let me know... I'll do it with you!

I know...decisions...decisions is right. I think I might call Altercare tomorrow and see if they're even going to call me in for an interview, and if not, then I might just go to Bath Manor and sign up. Seems the easiest. And then I wouldn't be tied to having to work at Altercare. which could be a good thing because it's like an automatic job, but then it might be a bad thing because I'm not sure how long you are required to work there.

I'll let you know if I make any decisions tomorrow.

I have decided to wait for Traditions at Bath Road. It will save me over $200 with the possibility of getting hired with them too. Also, the people there seem so nice unlike the reception at Bath Manor, who actually sighed because she had to get up off her butt to get me the registration form. If I can't get into Traditions at Bath Road, I can always wait for Bath Manor's next class. Let me know what you decided to do. Good luck!

The more I think about it, I think I'll wait too. I guess I never realized how many places may offer training for free, (or discounted like Traditions). So since Bath Manor has the class every month, I don't think I need to hurry up and decide this now. And for Bath Manor, you have to pay for the background check yourself, whereas at other places I've looked at, you don't. Just seems like it's the most expensive option out there and doesn't even offer you employment after.

Let me know if Traditions calls you! I went there today and filled out an app, but the girl hiring people was in a new hire orientation, so hopefully she'll call me back.

I think I might head out to a few more on monday...

Hey, did you ever get a call back from Traditions? Hope so!

No calls yet. How about you? Did you go in for your interview yet? At first I wanted to be an STNA just to get my feet wet since I am wanting to be an RN. But others tell me that if I am going to nursing school, I should just focus on school. I have a pretty good job now watching my brother's shop. It's a good place for me to study as well. I know if I get a job as an STNA, I might not have any time to study since I have 3 kids. So if Traditions at Bath Manor calls me for their class then it would be awesome, but if not, I can manage. Also, I can pay $450 at Bath Manor if I really wanted.

Are you still looking for a nursing school? My friend is going to Kent Stark campus this fall. She says there is no waiting period. I think they have the BSN Accelarated program since you already have a bachelors degree. Akron Institute is just ADN. Are you wanting a BSN or is ADN okay? I like Stark State because the tuition is only $127 per credit hour. Although there's a waitlist, I was told we can take all the non-nursing courses first. Which is okay by me since I don't think I can handle so many classes at one time. Anyway, I hope Traditions or Altercare call you soon.

Specializes in long term care.

I got my STNa back in 2000 at Bath Manor. Now at that time when we finished the class my pay was low. I do remember that after we took the test and passed I was paid $8.50. I worked night shift for a while and then moved on to work at Wyant Woods where when I left there I was making 10.50 and hour in 2002. They were union so we got our raises regularly. I don't know if that helps. I tell you what though I now livein the Youngstown, Ohio area and the aides here regardless of experience and I do have that only make 8.25- 9.00 I have worked a few places here and I said no way. they really should pay more. I just moved back from PA and I can't tellyou the difference in pay rate. Way higher. I work for an agency and I drive into Grove City,PA to work and I make good money

Did you ever decide on going the STNA route? I got into Traditions class and I start July 20. yikes!

That is awesome! Saves you over $200 huh? Also, there is a possible chance you will work for them and get your money back.

I decided to just concentrate on my classes this fall and continue to work part-time for my brother. That will be my designated place to study and do my homework. I will not be able to study at home because I have 3 kids to take care of too. Did you decide what school you plan on attending to get your RN? I think you should look into Accelerated BSN programs since you already have a Bachelors Degree. Did you check University of Akron or Kent State? I'm going to Stark State this fall. Gotta take my pre-req's (intro to a&p and intro to chem) and have atleast 12 credit hours before I can apply to the ADN program. There is a waiting list about 2 years for the nursing courses, but we are able to take all the non-nursing courses while we wait. So I will be in school for 4 years just to get a 2-year degree.

Good luck with your STNA classes at Traditions. The atmosphere there is much better than Bath Manor. Don't worry, you will do fine.

Thanks! I had applied to Kent State's BSN program, but just found out I didn't get accepted, so I'm just going to concentrate on working as an STNA for now and apply to schools for my Associate degree. U of Akron has a lot of prereq's, so I think I'll just do the associate thing and get into the industry and try for the BSN bridge later on. I'm taking the TEAS test friday for Akron Institute, so hopefully that will go well. They don't start until Jan, so I'll be able to get a few months of work in before going to school, and they're program is only 13 months, so that's not bad. And I like how they are super close. Good luck with your school too!
