  1. I'm not sure if there are males enrolled in the training program at Bath Manor. However, I no there are males enrolled in programs throughout the State. Please keep in mind that you would have to go through the same interview process as a female STNA would have to. Your status as a Male doesn't hold when entering the field. Women can do just about the same lefting as a male and some can do it better and I am a male.
  2. Working as an STNA is a very rewarding job/career. You have to a sense of urgency when working your pt. You also have to be the eyes in ears for your pt and nurses. The pay is not that great here in Ohio, but the end result is worth it - when you no that you made a difference in someone life. Working as an STNA is also a great first step if you really wont to work as an x ray tech, etc. As you will learn bed side manners and other critical skills that can transfer over into that position. I will check out local hospitals as most of them provide training in house for PCT (patient care tech) not STNA but more of adance STNA for hosptial settings. Also if you worked in a hospitals they will pay most of your education cost to further your education, after agreeing to work 1-2 yrs after you complete your program.
  3. It is very hard to clearly define the scope of practice for a CNA. As some State's have CNA and some State's have STNA's closely related job functions. Also in a hospital setting they have PCT or CTA which doesn't require State testing or certification as most hospitals will train there techs in house. If you are looking for your State only as other mentioned you might wont to take a look at CA board of nursing website for additional information. Or you can always review job boards in your area to look at the job requirement of a CNA in your area working in all healthcare settings.
  4. The proper term is MRDD not "retarded adults" as you stated above. I know we all say things without thinking but it's unfair to those who have friends/family members with MRDD to call them retarded adults. Mental Retardation is a developmental disability and should be respected as such.
  5. D&S is the only authorize tester for the State of Ohio STNA exam. You can view there website and search for other areas near you that have testing dates sooner. You may have to drive a distance, but there are lots of dates open. Also you should review there candidate book online before testing so you know what the test will be like
  6. thank you! i will try to that today... i will keep you updated.
  7. I would love to know what method you used to get your job at ccf? I applied online to several jobs and get the same automatic response you did. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!
  8. Welcome! I'm sorry i can't help with your question. You can try doing a search on the board at the top of the page in see if anyone else ask this question before. Good luck.... Nursing is a good career with lots of hard work.
  9. I'm thinking about applying here have anyone worked there before or currently do? How is the enviroement? is the pay good?
  10. Yes it would since you already have a degree that will save you lots of time plus the prereq's! you off to a good start. Good luck
  11. Huron has an excllent track record - the few people i know who have went through there program always talked about how good the instructors were and how pleased they were with the overall exp.
  12. You should check your local hospital website to see if they offer training for PCT. Also, you can call the HR department in tell them that you are interested in becoming an PCT but would like to know what training they offer. Most hospital offer the training for free --- which in these hard times everyone could use free training. Good luck - post back in let us know if you found anything for others who maybe in your area looking for the same thing.
  13. The area in general is not the best. However, you will do just fine, Huron is apart of the Cleveland Clinic so they have 24 hour security as well as East Cleveland police on site 24 hours. If at any time you feel unsafe just look down the hall in ask either a security guard of police officer to walk you to your car. I haven't heard of anyone that works there say anything bad about leaving or coming into work. You will do just fine!
  14. I agree here in Ohio every PCT is trained at the hospital, you just have to have 6 months of experience working as an STNA the apply in the hospital will train you according to the unit you will be working on for free
  15. Congradulations on looking ahead and starting a career while in high school. As, one mention you should check with your school first to see if they can point you into a direction where you wont have to pay out of your pocket. Being a CNA is a very very hard job and very very rewarding job, you learn great time management skills, how to work with a diverse group of people and most importantly make a difference in someone life. When looking into a CNA program you should first check with your State and find out the required hours you need to take the exam, secondly, find out if the school/program is an approved training center by your State. Good luck!
