I am so upset right now....I have had what my doc has been calling a 'stomach virus' for almost two weeks now. Starting on Monday, I've had severe stomach pain right below my breast bone that burns right through to my mid back. It feels like I'm having a gall bladder attack even though I had my gallbladder removed in 1995.
All of my blood work (amylase, lipase, CBC, and h. pylori test) came back negative. I just got off the phone with my doc and she said to take 2 ASA and 2 tylenol every 4 hours and she made me an emergency GI appointment for tomorrow. She said if it gets any worse to go to the ER of course.
She said it may be common bile duct stones...But, I had an ERCP after my gall bladder removal and everything was a-ok. Can you just form stones in your commonm bile duct without a gall bladder?
This is awful, I've used up all of my sick time already and had to call in sick for tomorrow.
Wish me luck!
Just got back from the GI doc and she said it's either my reflux behaving REALLY badly, a stone in the common bile duct, an ulcer, or spasms in the common bile duct. I have an ultrasound appointment on Sept. 2nd and an endoscopy appointment on the 7th. Hubby will be away in Washington State visiting his parents during that time...convenient huh? :) Luckily I have my mom for help.
One cool thing is, apparently endoscopy has become really simple. It's done in the office and takes about 10 minutes...YAY! No ambulatory surgery crap..hehe. I just hope whatever it is passes...ugh!
I worked in a GI lab for several months. You might want to check with the office, but we always required that someone come with the pt. They will sedate you and you'll probably not be able to drive. (liability reasons). We would not even prep pt until we made sure someone was going to pick them up unless you want to do it without sedation. I wouldnt suggest it. Good Luck.

Thanks for the suggestion. They gave me a paper with a list of instructions and one of them was that you had to bring a chauffer... :)
you know ali, when i was reading about you pain, i was trying to remember my a&p....and yes, you can still have stones in the absence of a gallbladder; as it still is started from the liver and since the gallbladder is no longer there, it will lodge itself in the bile duct. the stone itself would be creating the spasms too.
anyway, i'll be thinking of you on 9/2.
my sister used to be on percs for her stones....that painful.
and btw, my dtr. got me a gift set of oceorifice.............mmmmmmmmmm. smells soooooooo good.

"RNMedic1977~ Good call! My doc called me back shortly after I posted and said it could be common bile duct spasms. She called me in an antispasmodic and I took it last night. It made me pass out, so that was a good thing! :chuckle I can't take it this morning because I have to drive to the doc, but I'll take it again later."
Glad I could help:) . I have had many issues since my gallbladder was removed, and SOD was one! I have bouts of pancreatitis too ...hopefully that does not happen to you! Glad you have a GI doc that is listening and doing testing to get to the bottom of what is occurring. If he recommends an ERCP, contact me and I will explain how that test comes into play. Good Luck and feel better!!!

Maybe the pink stuff or loperamide?
Thanks for asking... :)
I had my abdominal sono yesterday and ya know how the techs aren't supposed to tell ya anything :angryfire I asked her if she saw anything interesting and she said no which is good. I have my endoscopy on the 7th so I'll know more then. I am feeling slightly better which is definitely a good thing!
Well, I went for my endoscopy today and the doc said that I still have my hiatal hernia, but it's not gotten any worse. I also have gastritis despite being on Prevacid. She told me to continue my Prevacid 2 times daily instead of once daily. I think a lot of my problem was my horrendous eating habits knowing that I have a bum stomach and no gall bladder. I'm just glad it's nothing serious....whew!
What a nice experience I had today! I didn't know that they do endoscopies in the office now and that was great. I got there at 10:30am and was out the door at 11:30. They also have this new anesthesia that they use. You wake up from it pretty rapidly. The anesthesiologist was wonderful. He was so nice and didn't hurt me a bit putting the IV in.
Just thought I'd update you all...thanks so much for thinking of me and for the positive thoughts!!
