still no job

Published

a month has gone by and I still can not find a job...I have tried several places and no one wants a new graduate so what is a person to do????22,000 in debt and no job ughhh

A year or so is a long time. Start your search well before you graduate. I graduated in June, started my search the previous December and had a job offer in March. Took the pressure off.

Right now there's a surplus of RNs in NJ but that will change as all things do.

emtb2rn How did you go about starting the job search 6 months before graduation? What hospitals did you find that were willing to talk to you w/o already passing the NCLEX? Any helpful info you could provide on getting an early start on the job search would be greatly appreciated. I am graduating in August 2009 and would like to get an jump start on the process as well.

iRN86, does your school have any career fairs scheduled? That's one place to start looking early. Go to the table of every hospital at the career fair.

I graduate in May 09, I think I will apply to Pa hospitals since RN's can't find jobs in NJ

I dont understand the lack of job prospects you are facing ,I am a uk trained nurse passed nclex and got my license 1 month ago. I made some phone calls to local agencies and applied online to several hospitals who are hiring and have been offered 3 jobs one at Lourdes and then 2 agencies want me too I am in the middle of deciding which job to take!!

which state are u at?

Unfortunately, the situation is as bad, or worse, in Philly. And I just started hearing about problems in the Pittsburgh area. :(

Do you have experience as a nurse? The biggest problem seems to be getting a job as a new grad...

Sorry for the delayed response.

How did you go about starting the job search 6 months before graduation? - Sent out my resume and followed it up with a phone call.

What hospitals did you find that were willing to talk to you w/o already passing the NCLEX? - Atlantic Health, St. Barnabas & their affiliates (treat each as a separate entity), Somerset Medical Center, Mountainside and NJ state hospitals (i.e., Hagadorn).

I am graduating in August 2009. - Start NOW!!! It seems most of the orientation classes are over the summer so the hospitals want staffing done early in the year.

Good luck.
