  1. Wow thanks for blowing the trumpet of doom as ever its just what foreign nurses need right now another scary lecture from those blessed with US citizenship!!! Why dont you just make the name of this forum International Scare and Dislike of foreigners forum and be done!!! The info you posted is common knowledge for everyone hoping to move to the usa we dont need the lack of visas rubbed in our faces AGAIN how about posting an uplifting and hopeful message for a change thats what people need in times like these
  2. Ahh yes I do have 10 years experience as a nurse maybe that is why, sorry.
  3. Hi all, I have an interview with Bayada nursing agency and they mentioned on the phone that part of the interview was a quiz that you do then they review it with you. Has anyone done this quiz with Bayada is it a nursing quiz checking your nursing knowledge? Is there any areas I should text book brush up on for this quiz?
  4. I am in south jersey.
  5. I dont understand the lack of job prospects you are facing ,I am a uk trained nurse passed nclex and got my license 1 month ago. I made some phone calls to local agencies and applied online to several hospitals who are hiring and have been offered 3 jobs one at Lourdes and then 2 agencies want me too I am in the middle of deciding which job to take!!
  6. Hi all, A quick question if anyone knows. My international student advisor left our school after applying for pre-completion opt for me. I have now recieved the work authorisation but the new international co-ordinator is a secretary who has been pulled from another job to fill in and she knows nothing about immigration, or international students. She cannot answer my questions, I tried to call USCIS who said all they could answer was all info is given to student advisors and to speak to them!! So my questions are these. 1)How many hours can I work in the term time I think I read online it is 20 hours a week is this flexable at all could I do 2 twelve hour shifts so 24 hours one week and then 1 twelve hour shift the next week so it averages to 60 hours in a month. 2) How do the goverment track the hours am I responsible to send them anything or does the employer have to fill out paperwork? 3) Pre-completion opt is counted as half time so at 20 hours a week you do 6 months work in 1 year does this mean you can do pre-copletion opt for 2 years part time? My work authorisation is for 1 year do I re apply after that year for the second year of half time? Any help you guys can give me is much appreciated. Ruth x
  7. I do not post often because of this very thing but i had to come out of lurkdom to say a huge well done to you for posting this topic!! I feel like every post reply on here is negative towards foreign nurses wanting to come to the usa to work. Topics that are meant to be encouraging to foreign nurses or offer insight or hope to those waiting somehow end up mysteriously locked! I am sick of the negative attitude on this board and as moderators I feel it is their job to be BALANCED and IMPARTIAL to everyone not just constantly feeding the negitivity with doom gloom and go to another country statements. I am very happy to see this post and I am very proud to say........ I AM A FOREIGN NURSE I AM STUCK IN THE RETROGRESSION I CANT WAIT TO SEE SOMETHING DONE WITH VISAS AND I DO WANT TO CONNECT HERE AND BE SUPPORTED BY OTHERS IN THE SAME SITUATION NOT CONSTANTLY BE PUT DOWN AND SCARED AWAY!!!
  8. But does this mean if you are in the USA if this Bill comes into affect and numbers are current you can file for adjustment of status so if your already in the usa on a valid visa this bill will help a great deal.
  9. Hiya, Hamilton is in Mercer County I think the train ride is an hour I think?
  10. Hi all, I live in south jersey about 15 mins from hamilton train station. I have seen a job I like in NYC and am wondering what its like to do that commute? I could take the train from hamilton to Penn station and do 12 hour shifts do you think it is realistic?
  11. I thought from what I read that it meant unlimited visas for nurses and the 20,00 limit was for their dependants? 1. Lifting of retrogression for Schedule A workers. Any immigrant visa quotas or caps are waived for all visa applications filed for Shortage Occupations (Schedule A occupations: Physical Therapists and Registered Nurses), provided that the I-140 is filed prior to September 30, 2011. 2. 20,000 primary beneficiary quota. While there is no retrogression for Schedule A cases filed before September 30, 2011, Consulates may not approve more than 20,000 primary beneficiary visas in any one year. There is no quota for the immediate family members of such beneficiaries.
  12. So what you are saying is you would need to be in the usa on another valid visa say student visa so you could do an adjustment in status, have passed nclex and have your visa screen in hand in order to have any chance of these visas helping you?
  13. Suzanne thank you so so much, I have passed all this on and he is so greatful for the warning he does have a Bachelors degree in Behavioural Psychology and it is in psychiatric care he wants to work so the agency has already suggested for this job they can possibly file for H-1B. I will do a search on the EB3 category for all the information I do not understand what an agency will get out of filing an I-140 for the EB3 right now when there are no visas and such a long wait list!
  14. Thanks suzanne yes that is the part neither of us understands he does not know which route to go to just apply for the EB3 visa and wait for his visa or to wait till some nurse category of visa is issued. I think he is going to schedule an appointment with an immigration lawyer who can explain it all to him it is so complicated.
  15. Thanks suzanne very much I will pass it all on poor him!!! His F1 expires Nov 2011 he doesnt mind staying as a student but he though the sooner he got a prioroty date the quicker he would get a visa once they were released. Looks like he will be here as a student till 2011 and even then may have to renew the student visa if he wants to stay.
