Take any job while you hunt. Have you spoken to any agencys? I want to be a travel nurse when I graduate.

agency wont hire a new graduate, they want 1 year experience

hey we're on the same boat but with me I have 5 yrs RN experience in England and I came to U.S and did my boards in november '08 so I passed and till now I dont have a job. No one will hire me bcos I dont have 1 year RN experience here in States. so how am I going to get my bloody experience if no one will hire me. so ****** off. And where I work as nursing aid, my managers wont even help me actually the whole hospital is not very supposrtive of me now that I'm RN they're not even offering me jobs isnt that ridiculous! And I have to shadow an RN in my own time and no pay just to get experience on what the RN's do, but even that manager's just dont give a **** about me and they just passed me by and they keep walking on.

Have you tried sub acute rehabs? You can get experience there. They are usually more likely to hire new grads. Some hospital systems have rehabs that they are affiliated with. In those cases you would be able to transfer to the hospital after you get some experience. Just a thought. Good luck.

Unfortunately, i heard quite a few hospitals have already filed for bankruptcy. don't know if it's true. if it is, new grads will even have more of a harder time to find jobs since the experienced nurses who were laid off will take the jobs. Nursing homes are always hiring and usually take a new grad on the spot, so try that route so u can get experience.

Which hospitals have filed for bankruptcy??

u know what, it took me 1 year and 4 mos before i finally landed a job. And that wait was like forever! But i have to say that it was worth the long wait because i am now working in a tertiary specialty hospital.. And it's a lot better than being employed right away in a clinic!

I've graduated since May 2008 and I still can't get a job and I don't want to settle!! I'm starting to lose hope but reading you response has definitely given me strength. Thanks a million!!!!!

okay so finally someone is going to give me a break and I was hired for pool that pretty much can lead to alot of hours....the place is not my idea of places,it is trully an old nursing home...but so far the people seem nice that I have met and hey at this point it's a start right???they have alot to do including IV's if I decide to get certified...I figure with all the other applications I sent out over 50!!!!maybe I can pick up another pool in a rehabilitation..my goal is to get 1 years of experience so I can go to Bayada but I don't know how thay want me to get med-surg when no one will hire ughhhhh

omg..this is what scares me about NJ..not being able to get a job after i graduate. I havent been working through nursing school and the thought of going another year or so without a job after getting my license..yikes. I just might have to take my boards in NY then

A year or so is a long time. Start your search well before you graduate. I graduated in June, started my search the previous December and had a job offer in March. Took the pressure off.

Right now there's a surplus of RNs in NJ but that will change as all things do.
