Stethoscope cover for men?

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Published

Hi everyone,

Just started clinicals last week and I came to the realization pretty quickly that I'm definitely going to be a nurse that needs a stethoscope cover.

I have sensitive skin and the rubber of the stethoscope is def going to be a problem without a cover.

I've been looking online, but so far I only see pretty feminine "scrunchie" style ones.

Anyone know where I can get a low-key more masculine cover?

Thanks in advance!

Moved to the Nursing Gear forum for more suggestions.

Gosh, what part of "fomite / can't alcohol off between patients /never gets washed/heat dried daily" is hard to understand?

Anybody that comes to care for me or mine wearing one of those things will have to remove it.

Most facilities no longer allow clothe covers. They are too good of a vehicle for germs. Especially w/ isolation precautions etc.

Carry it in your cargo pockets or a stethoscope holder which also doesn't give you the neck fatigue/sensation.

Get a Thinklabs One, a digital stethoscope that has no tubing at all, simply a lightweight wire to headphones like what you would use with an Iphone.

Very manly too! (Or at least I think)

I wear my stethoscope around my neck but always have either a collared lab coat on, hoodie or a high collar of some kind - I just don't like the feel of the bare steth on my skin...

Don't worry about the cover or the holder in my opinion. Get you some good scrubs in the that can accommodate the stethoscope, the clip (and even in the pocket sometimes) will cause the stethoscope to catch on things. Just my opinion and experience.

I've seen nurses who wear their scopes over the shoulder, ear piece in front, bell in back. Maybe that would work?
