Most people don't need one as expensive as mine but, I am OLD and can't hear well. I will say, even my instructor loves my stethoscope!

I have a Littman Classic II. I ordered it from school and got a great discount, it was only $55. I love it.

I have a Littmann Cardiology II that I got from a family friend who is a nurse. I'm guessing this is what they had before the Cardiology III came out. She snagged it from a resident who was being snotty to her. So I am using a "hot" stethoscope right now. I went out and got a pair of those self-sealing earpieces to hear better.
Now the only problem I have is when I use the teaching stethoscope I have a hard time and don't hear the sounds. I guess I've gotten spoiled. I have to find a way to overcome that though. And I'm not that old so I don't know what my reason is for not being able to hear.

Like Maggie, I sometimes think I am hard of hearing. I have had a Prestige (cheap off brand) for a year but there has been too many times that I cannot hear very quiet BP's and when I borrow someone's Littmann, I hear great. Yesterday I ordered the Littmann Cardiology III, which is what I always borrow. It was $119 from Allheart.com. My advice is borrow other people's and see what you can hear best with.
BTW, the nearby nursing uniform shop wanted $180 for the stethescope I ordered, so I advise you to find what you like in person, then order online and save a bundle. You will still get the same warranty.
Good luck! And once you spend good money on one, get your name engraved or something so no one can steal it.

I have the Littmann Classic II, works great for me! I got it from allheart.com, but unless you can wait longer than a month to get your order, I wouldn't recommend getting it from there!

get just as good a price on a Littmann Cardio III from other places on the net, that offer FASTER shipping than allheart. My experience with allheart is...well, I ordered my 'scope on 10/2. I still don't have it (11/19) (though, after they over-nighted it, I know it's "in town"--now all I have to do is convince DHL to let me pick it up!!!). You can try "froogle" (it's on the Google search page) to find other vendors...that's where I found a 2nd place that promised 3-4 day shipping for the same 'scope for the same price....

Have to mention my Ultrascope....Absolute BEST I've ever used...and I have used everything from the disposable to a Litmann Cardio III. Ultrascope is the BEST! And they look cool too! I'm horse crazy, so My hubby got me one with a horses head for our anniversary! :balloons:

I find the Ultrascope to be the best also. The added perk is that you can design it yourself (colors/patterns). Well, worth the money - I think they cost around $90 give or take.
