Stephen King Readers Thread

Published

So a recent thread got me thinking (which is never a good thing) It appears we have number of Stephen King Readers. I suggest we do a nursing DX for our favorite King Character!

BTW if you liked The Shining (Book not movie) you are going to love Dr. Sleep

Hppy

I know books tend to be inherently better than movie adaptations, but do you think that if I've seen several Stephen King book-adaptation movies, that the scariness of the books would be dulled? Just, in that, in at least some respect they would be predictable? There are several that I saw when I was much younger (I think I was probably 10 or 11 the first time I saw The Shining), but I would love to read the books.

I mean, I'm getting married in 3 days so I have about 28 things to do tonight. But I also have this really great tea, cozy sushi pajamas, and found the full text of The Shining online...

What time should we all show up?

Congrats!

Oh, but we do. We have all the time in the world. You see, Annie Wilkes has tied and hobbled us, and won't let us leave the room until all the books are read.

And that can take forever... And ever...and ever.

LOL. Okay, but back in the real world, I've got 3 kids to feed, scrubs to watch and have to be at work in 12 hours. And I haven't even gotten off AN yet. This nobody ain't got time for that. If I did have time for that, would The Green Mile be worth reading after seeing the movie a few times?

ETA: I like your new LOTR quote.

Thanks. I like it, too.

1) Your kids should cook for you.

2) You watch your scrubs? What do they do?!

3) It's just a job

4) Stay on AN. You can always read in 3 months when you get bored here.

Pssst. I never read The Green Mile.

I watch my scrubs and think I should really wash these...right after I check out this interesting story on Kiwi nurses...12 hours later I'm at work in dirty scrubs and my wife shaking her head.

Please note I gave you a pass on the "what so they do?!" comment. Because I'm nice that way.

Yea, but I think you were the only one that saw it. ^

And I thought you meant you were watching scrubs, the show. Or a TLC video.

Okay, no I knew it was a typo. :)

Wash your scrubs!

I started reading Stephen King as a child. I honestly don't remember the first one I read, but I think it was Skeleton Crew. I used to be scared of the Monkey.

My parents were both big readers and were not very observant of which books I stole. I think I was maybe 9 or 10 when I read it. Scared the piss out of me!

So, risk for death related to misuse of supernatural toy?

As far as the movies go, they are only 1/10th of the books, usually.

For crap-your-pants scared, there's nothing like the books. Especially if you have a vivid imagination.

The movies are pedestrian when compared to the fevered machinations of the human mind.

My brother had this toy. It was scarier in real life.

I have gone to work in dirty scrubs many a time. If you run them through the dryer to get the wrinkles out and then hit 'em with the lint roller, no one's going to notice. My new rule is I can't wear them more than two shifts in a row. Once they've seen two shifts, they officially have to be washed. No exceptions!

So, I thought you should know that the way you phrased that was just straight-up beautiful and made me smile. Thank you for making my morning better.

Nope! Now a real clown would set me back a bit, but I'd probably tell him to #$@$$%!
