States Hiring New Grads

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hello everyone!

Not sure if I am posting in the right forum- but I'm gonna give this a shot and hope for an influx of replies~

Anyway, I am finishing my 2 year RN degree in AZ and have been looking at different random states to see who IS hiring new grads and I have to admit that I am becoming quite discouraged.

Can anyone offer any advice as to which states/hospitals ARE hiring us newbies?

Thanks for all of the help!

Thanks for the info. However, this hospital is located in Salina, Kansas. Not Kansas City Kansas or Kansas City Missouri. This hospital is about 2 hours away from both Kansas City's. :lol2:

Oops, sorry about the confusion. Obviously I don't know the area hahaa.

A bit concern that there are few US trained nurses having difficulty finding jobs there when there are few if not many overseas nurses recently hired to fill vacancies. Is there something missing from the US nurses that the employer turn to overseas trained nurses as a potential.? i do not see any reason to suggest that nurses from overseas are threat but where is the rationale of recruting from overseas when there are so many already waiting to be hired there? Well, i am not US trained but still unlucky because until now i have not fulfilled my american dream. If i can get there with this retrogression still on, then i will be happy and will finally say, yes i did it just the rest of the fortunate ones. I just hope it will be over soon then, you (US trained job hunters) and overseas trained like me will be over the moon.

Maybe the foriegn trained nurses are accepting less pay or benifits. Where i am, I have heard the opposite. I was told that the non-us trained nurses have to jump thru way more hurdles. This came from a group of nurses from the philipines.

As far as new grads finding jobs in concerned. i am in Hampton Roads Virginia and in Dec 08, hospital recruiters told me that they would hire us up to 4 months prior to graduation. In Jan 09 when my classmates and I started to apply, we were told we had to graduate first. In May after graduation, we were told that we now had to pass the N-Clex first and now after most of us have passed the N-Clex, we are being told that up to 20 new grads are applying for each position. Our largest hospital network in the state recently said that they only have 400 positions open period in the whole state and of the positions accepting new grads (not many) they place graduates from the hospitals nursing school first. non of us have found jobs yet. the person who graduated with the highest GPA recently accepted a job in TN because she couldn't find anything here.

I have a question about new grads accepting jobs in other states. Did you apply prior to graduation? and did you take the NClex prior to moving? I'm a little concerned about this process. I won't graduate for a few more years but I'm willing to relocate to obtain a job. I live in RI and the prospects here are not good right now. Plus I would like to get into L&D. I'm just curious how to go aobut it once the time comes.

I know.. it's a long way off but I pre-plan EVERYTHING> :imbar

Hospitals in Roanoke, VA are hiring new grads. That is where most of the folks that graduated with me went and they are still hiring:twocents:

I see a few positions listed in the Richmond Times Classifieds for positions in and around Richmond VA but I don't know if they will hire new grads.

new york state is really good about hiring new grads! pretty much my entire class has been hired in hospital! i live in the Ithaca area, however Elmira, Cortland, Syracuse, Rochester area hospitals all hired new grads as well.

good luck!

try not to talk to nurses who graduated ages ago or even a few years ago about getting a job as a new grad. also try not to talk to people who are not nurses! the only ones who know how hard it is to find a job are current new grads and those who listen to current new grads. adns and bsn new grads are having a difficult time landing the job to gain the needed work experience all over the country.

amen. you know exactly what your talking about. i am also a new grad that is having difficulty finding a job.
