I hopefully am about to begin an lpn course and wanted to know what is the average starting wage for a lpn who just graduated. stats i read say 18 dollars and hour, and i wanted to know if that is accurate. i live in NWI, and i think nurses make less here anyway. i love the nursing field having been a cna and didnt know whether to choose lpn or surgical technologist, i liked both and was going to pick which ever made more. help!
I live in Miami, Florida I earn $20.50 an hour...I've been on this job with corrections for 8 months (graduated 2/2005). Prior to this job I earned $16 an hour at a nursing home, I decided to go per diem and starting making $19 an hour before I decided that nursing homes were not for me.
If you can find a hospital you will make at best $14 an hour. I have heard of LPNs working for agencies and making as much as $23 an hour and more with no more than 1 year of experience...I would say the pay rate here is alright...but it seems that New York is where the money is...
I am a new graduate PN going to take the nclex this friday. I am located in West Virginia the lowest wage I had heard for a LPN in this area was 10.00 hrly at a local nursing home and goes up to around 14.00 hrly at a different nursing home and the local hospitals. This past week though I had a interview at a local chain of doctors offices during this interview I was asked my expected wage. When I said around 10.00 hrly they acted like they were shocked. They did not tell how much they do pay at this 1st interview but said that 10.00 hrly was to much to ask for in this area!!
Yikes!! Salary is much better in southern ms but we did have a hurricane which drove up salaries a little.
I am in NC and work with developmentally disabled adults and make 15.00/hr, before starting this job I worked at a local nsg home and starting pay for 2+ yrs experience was 15.50-16.00/hr, I had worked up to 20.00/hr. I started working at an agency, during my nurses' training, as a CNA and then as a new grad for 18.00/hr. If I am not mistaken Dr's offices here make around 12-13ish and hospitals from 13-20ish depending on experience and shift/days worked.

I live below SF in CA and I've heard that in some LTCF around SouthSF will pay $14 or $18+/hr. In some hospitals in SSF they pay $23 to $45/hr. In some clinics in SSF $18-24. I know further up north in SF they will pay a lot more becuase the cost of living there is higher and houses have appreciated to 700-800K+. But, its like hard for LVns to get jobs here because most of the positions are already filled, there are a lot of comptetitive RN programs around here, and also hospitals around here want BSNs.
