  1. About 5 yrs ago I was working in the Alzheimer's unit at a nursing home, the unit was locked but had a fenced in courtyard ( the door to go outside was kept locked unless the nurse/aides were taking residents out). It was in the dead of winter and snowing outside, well I was doing my med pass and we had to keep the cart locked in the nurses station due to the residents and take meds around the unit. As I returned from taking meds to someone I looked over to wards the living room and outside in the courtyard was one of the residents in her merry walker with a huge smile on her face, going around and around the small brick garden in the center of the courtyard!!!! I ran to the door, which was locked, opened it and brought her in, her only reply was " it has gotten cold out there". How she got the door open is still mystery!!
  2. If I were you I would get all of my pre-requisites out of the way, even if it means waiting until the next year to start the actual program. I did my nurses' training FT and the last semester was absolutely crazy!!! The clinicals became harder and the days longer. I worked part time, 20hrs wk, and had a 4 yr old. I had hardly anytime to study and almost gave up halfway through the 2nd semester. Some clinical days start around 6:30 am too!!! Anyways good luck in whatever you decide
  3. I am in NC and work with developmentally disabled adults and make 15.00/hr, before starting this job I worked at a local nsg home and starting pay for 2+ yrs experience was 15.50-16.00/hr, I had worked up to 20.00/hr. I started working at an agency, during my nurses' training, as a CNA and then as a new grad for 18.00/hr. If I am not mistaken Dr's offices here make around 12-13ish and hospitals from 13-20ish depending on experience and shift/days worked.
