Hello everyone! I'm new to the site, I will be starting nursing school in January. I am in a 4 year BSN program and have been working my butt off for the past year and half to make it this far. I'm beyond excited! I have a couple questions, small questions but important to me, since I have never done anything in the medical field.
does stethoscope color matter? I am going for the Litmann Classic III (our school makes it mandatory for it to be a littmann)I know they tend to get stolen so I really wanted to go with breast cancer pink but can't choose between that or the pearl pink. Should I get engraving? Is it worth it? What colors do you have?
I get my scrubs through my school, should I get two pairs or should one be suffice?
where can I get a good watch with a second hand that's cute but functional and CHEAP.
and lastly, any tips for me and my first semester of nursing school and clinicals. Any uniform, accessories tips or things I should get such as school supplies?
Thanks everyone! Any advice is welcome

I would get two pairs of scrubs, whether you have one for a backup or want to alternate. Having one pair of scrubs and needing to make sure it's washed whether you feel like it or not is really annoying!
Also, I had a Baby G watch and it wasn't the cheapest (like $60) but it was waterproof and very functional. A ton of different color schemes as well, very cute. You'll get cheaper suggestions but that's what I used and recommend

Two sets of scrubs for sure. And the stethoscope color- the more unique the color, the less likely it is to be accidentally walked off with. Best wishes- it's going to be an awesome ride.
Thank you for your responses! They all truly do help!

Definitely two sets of scrubs! I always keep an extra set in my car in case of...well in case I need to change on the fly!
I second the idea about the unique color. I have the Classic III and love it, mine is breast cancer awareness pink- but also engraved on both the bell and tubing.
Like mindofmidwifery, I also have a Baby G, I found mine at Ross for $29.99 and it's fantastic. I have it preset to military time with quick access to seconds for counting RR.
Stock up on index cards, highlighters and the usual school supplies- but my biggest suggestion? Don't skimp ok good shoes. 12 hour clinical days can be brutal if you have bad shoes!
Good luck!!!
Ditto on the shoes!

If you're still looking for a cheap watch with a second hand, I got mine at WalMart for about $8.00 and it held up through nursing school.

I am starting in January also. I have bought 3 pairs of scrubs, and did buy some higher quality ones. Figured I want to be comfortable and was told they would hold up better to washing all the time. With all the stipulations on shoes...has to be all white, no clogs, slip ons, mesh etc I have had a hard time finding good shoes. I finally found Klogs Napels and fell in love, they are heaven on my feet. Anyone have any experience with these being considered "clogs" and unable to wear them for school? Hate to spend the money and not be able to wear them but I need comfort. :) They are more of a mule and fully closed in. I also bought compression sleeves for my legs at Dick's Sporting Good, because I heard that the compression socks were like an inferno for your feet. Watch wise, are the watches that clip onto your scrubs are they useful or in the way? Thanks!!!
I'm on the same exact boat! I have so many questions! I can wear white or black shoes but they can't be clogs

I would go far darker. Sometimes the lighter colors can turn gray or get stained by ink or dirt from skin. I have had cheap pens explode in my scrubs and coat everything including my skin. I have bad luck with pens.
I liked the rainbow head and caribbean green tubing colors (for my classic II) the best but I gave that to my sister. I have rainbow head and black tubing because that's all the cardio III came in at one point. I also have an all black master cardiology.
I recommend engraving because at least two other people will have the same stethoscope no matter what you pick. Having the stethoscope watch may also help distinguish yours.
I'd personally go the stethoscope watch route but my Cherokee stethoscope watch isn't made anymore.
Stethoscope watch
Hair clip
Badge holder
Folder/Binder/clipboard (I don't use these as a nurse now but I used to use a clipboard that bent in half to fit in my pockets)
Info badge sized cards (forget what they are called. I use the peds cards)
I would look at the alegria shoes and see if you like them. I bought two that have the full backing and they feel really good. One is black with imprints on them.
