Starting Capella for BSN....

Updated:   Published

I will be starting Capella Flexpath to complete my BSN on 9/14.  I have to be honest at 48 years old I am a little nervous to go back to school.  I finished nursing school 10 years ago. (I have previous degrees from my first career).  So it's been awhile.  I am a little nervous about APA format and power point presentations but I suppose it is all part of the learning process!  Also the "quarter credits" are a little confusing to me.  My employer will cover up to 9 credits per year so I am wondering how that will translate.

Just curious to hear some positive and encouraging stories from those who are currently in the program or have completed it.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know anything about your program. But I suggest that you make APA a complete non-issue by acquiring software that will take care of formatting for you. It is truly not that big a deal. The emphasis on this (by schools of nursing) would make it appear that APA is the most important thing you're there to learn. Ridiculous.

Get the software and use it (Google 'APA formatting software'). And then don't worry about APA.

Best of luck ~

I got this from the Capella website. For more information, you can log on, go to 'My Dashboard' and scroll to find 'Grades and Transcripts'. Then select your program option: Guided or FlexPath. The information below is for the FlexPath option. Hope this helps.

Request a Translated Transcript

This transcript translates your competency scores into the approximate letter grade for each course. This may be used for the purpose of applying to a non-competency-based University or for employer reimbursement.

I am also starting Capella this month on the 14th. I think that after the quarter/billing session ends you will be able to request the quarters to send to your employer. I've researched Capella a lot and found some very helpful Youtube videos from previous students that helped me to pick this college.

hi

im starting the program this month, I start tomorrow oct 12th.

I just sent a request to get into the facebook group.

I am so overwhelmed, im not the best writer, let alone using APA.

I find it so annoying.

any recommendations on a software or websites that can make t your paper into APA?

also, any recommendations as to how to register for classes. I want to try and take as many as I can. Do you register for them at the same time, or do you cycle them. for example (register for 2nd class once you have submitted your last assignment or while you wait for your final grade, etc)

than you !

I personally choose to take one class at a time. If you register for two classes at once, you have to be active in both classes each week. I've found that taking one at a time is a stress reducer and it allows me to move through each course easily. Doing it this way, I've managed to complete courses in a matter of days for some, and at most, weekly for others. This has given me a lot of wiggle room since I always set my course completion target date for one month out.

As far as moving immediately into another course before receiving the final course grade of a previous course, you can do that. However, for assignments that may give you a bit of a challenge, I would recommend holding off on moving forward after submitting your final assessment just in case you have to make revisions that might take up more of your time. Keep in mind that for every course in which you are actively enrolled, you have to show that you are actively working the assignments (aka academic engagement). If you have began another course, you would have double the work.

If you are not as strong in writing papers, I would take the one-at-a-time approach.  I am pretty good at APA format, yet I still take the one-course approach and have been able to complete 7 courses between July 10th and September 30th. So, if you're going with the flexpath option, make it easy on yourself. You can still reach your goals in a timely manner.

So far for Capella I have completed 5 classes and am half way through the 6th class. I started the 14th and I really like it so far.

Wow-that’s awesome!

im in my second class. The research slows me down so much but I’m OK with the paper writing I itself. I am not meeting my goals so far as time but I am still going to try to step it up.

Hello, I completed Capella’s RN - BSN program in 9 weeks. Only the 8 core courses. I completed one course a week. Subscribe to the facebook Capella group, It helped a lot. A lot of students suggested Fair/Easy teacher to take and teachers to avoid. Be prepared to write anywhere from 4-5 papers per class on average 8-9 pages. Some PowerPoint presentation some visual presentation in audio presentation. The program is great, no discussion boards, no exams. And I really enjoyed the program, just waiting for my diploma to come in the mail. Good luck to you all. And don’t forget to sign up for Capella 30% discount for first responders. I used that. Graduated A.S RN program in May 2020

Me too. I just finished also in 9 weeks. They have the discount for the MSN too. Bows a good time to keep getting those degrees for cheap.

Can you speak more to this? You completed one class per week. And each class had 4-5 papers? So, for 9 weeks you were writing 4-5 papers per week?

Yes I did about 4 papers each week. Some class had a PowerPoint in place of a paper but it was pretty easy and cost effective. The first class is only 3 papers and the last class has 5 papers but the rest are 4.
