Starting Capella for BSN....

Updated:   Published

I will be starting Capella Flexpath to complete my BSN on 9/14.  I have to be honest at 48 years old I am a little nervous to go back to school.  I finished nursing school 10 years ago. (I have previous degrees from my first career).  So it's been awhile.  I am a little nervous about APA format and power point presentations but I suppose it is all part of the learning process!  Also the "quarter credits" are a little confusing to me.  My employer will cover up to 9 credits per year so I am wondering how that will translate.

Just curious to hear some positive and encouraging stories from those who are currently in the program or have completed it.

Thanks in advance!

Yes I did about 4 papers each week. Some class had a PowerPoint in place of a paper but it was pretty easy and cost effective. The first class is only 3 papers and the last class has 5 papers but the rest are 4.

That’s pretty amazing. But, I believe if you are comfortable writing papers, it would be pretty easy to write a paper a day/every other day. Thanks for replying back. I’ve been debating between WGU and Capella. The pass/fail of WGU is my biggest hurdle if I decide to go to a competitive school for my masters.

Yeah me too and I’m not a great paper write but was always a procrastinator so I’m used to writing papers all at once and doing it fast. LOL. With this program I was able to get a 4.0 for my BSN so later I could go to a good MSN program if I want to.

How long ago did you graduate? I think I only need the 8 core classes as well. If I’m remembering my conversation with the advisor correctly.

I started Sept. 14th of this year and I’ve already received my diploma and transcripts. They get your stuff to you quick once you finish. Wayyy faster than my ASN diploma

I started 9/14 and am hoping to finish in March.  For me the paper writing is not that easy.  I have been out of school a loooonnnngggg time.  It takes me a long time to so the research for the papers.  If I can get 2 done a week it is a lot for me.  But I'm trucking along.....

Hello, I completed Capella’s RN - BSN program in 9 weeks. Only the 8 core courses. I completed one course a week. Subscribe to the facebook Capella group, It helped a lot. A lot of students suggested Fair/Easy teacher to take and teachers to avoid. Be prepared to write anywhere from 4-5 papers per class on average 8-9 pages. Some PowerPoint presentation some visual presentation in audio presentation. The program is great, no discussion boards, no exams. And I really enjoyed the program, just waiting for my diploma to come in the mail. Good luck to you all. And don’t forget to sign up for Capella 30% discount for first responders. I used that. Graduated A.S RN program in May 2020

Hi there, that is so great to know that you finished within 9 weeks. I had seen on their website that the Flex Program would be around 9 months, so that is nice to see that it can be done faster. Did you only have to pay for one billing session since it looks like billing sessions are every 12 weeks?

Me too. I just finished also in 9 weeks. They have the discount for the MSN too. Bows a good time to keep getting those degrees for cheap.

Did you only have to pay for 1 session since you finished in 9 weeks, but sessions are 12 weeks long?

Yes I only had to pay for 1 billing session and they had 30% off so it only cost $2100 I think.

Yes I paid for only 1 session. So if you take 13 weeks you would have to pay 2 sessions cause you pay per 12 weeks.

Your post is highly encouraging.  Any tips or advice on how to go about the research for the papers?  Anything you found helpful in your journey?

I know this post is a little old, but I plan on starting in March (waiting on transcripts!) and I would love to get it done as quick as possible. It's great to hear that this is possible & that I don't have to be committed to another year of school. I plan to go right on for my masters, do you suggest continuing with Capella for this as well? And that's also great to know about the discount. The way you did it makes it so affordable! Did you do this while working?

For research I basically just try to Google in the research bank each part of the score sheet. Sorta like find common words from the score sheet and find research based on those. I’ve also tried to correlate my papers with my speciality when possible because it makes it easier for me to not only understand but to also explain in my papers. I hope I made sense ☺️
