Stanford Nurse Residency August 2023 Cohort 39

Published

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to submit this here to start a place where all of us who have applied to Stanford's nurse residency program can communicate. This is for cohort 39, which has a start date of August 21, 2023. I hope we all get in!

I got called about an hour ago for heme/onc. I was told they are interviewing 6 candidates for 3 positions.

Congrats! Was this for oncology division 2?

Thank you! No, it was oncology 1.

I personally forgot to answer "why I want to work for stanford" as part of my intro..I think I did great in the rest of the questions. Haven't heard back but getting super anxious ?

I forgot to answer this as well. I didn't hear clearly and I thought they said why nursing in general, not stanford nursing. ?

Oh that's so interesting! Mine was why oncology nursing. Others have said they just got why nursing in general.

Were we told beforehand to include "why stanford" in our intro? I personally didn't get the "why Stanford?” question in my panel interview, so I'm wondering if only some units asked this question.. I did get "why ICU nursing?” though.

Oh yes! I totally forgot you and I chatted about oncology 1 vs 2! I wonder if you'd be able to move to BMT when the training is over.

I was the very first one to be asked about the question. They asked "who you are (summarize your resume) and why nursing.” and then I just answered it based on the question they asked. However the other candidates stated answers to "why stanford" instead of "why nursing.”

I also had kept all my answers less than 2 minutes for each question and felt like the other candidates had more longer answers. I was stressed that I should have made my answers longer. ?

I was also the very first person to be asked the question in my panel! And my answers were also the shortest haha about 1 minute and 30-45 seconds. Everybody answered why nursing in general though, not Stanford specifically.

I don't think your answers being short is necessarily a bad thing. As long as you hit all of the points they were asking and conveyed your message, I think you should be good! Fingers crossed. What unit did you interview for?

@tdjrnhave you heard back from AAU surgical for a 2nd interview?

@Nurse6779 honestly was so anxious I don't know if I answered correctly or completely. I'll take this as a learning experience.

Same! I had a piece of paper, wrote key words, and made sure I hit all points.   I interviewed for medicine division 1, I believe the interviewer said they'll be doing callbacks for this unit until June 30th? (Can anyone confirm)

Hi just wanted to share I'm also waiting to hear back from surgical! I asked the fb group if anyone has received a call from them yet to gauge what's going on. Fingers crossed for both of us.
