Standard Of Nursing For PN 2008

Published

I would like to know what the standard of nursing is for California.

I believe it was 75%, I know that it has changed but what has it changed too? 80-85%

And is California a Compact state yet?

Also, My friends that have taken the test say, that NCLEX hits you with all sorts of things. They say that it is nothing like the test questions on the practice Cd's. If that is the case, what should I be studying?

Thanks a Bunch!

What are you speaking of when talking about standards of nursing?

Are you meaning the pass rate or the percentage that one needs to get correct on the NCLEX to pass the exam?

CA is not a compact state nor do I think that it will happen any time soon. Remember that if you move out of the state where you had your compact license issued, it becomes null and void for the compact part of it and only the license is valid for the state where it was issued.

Hummm. I'm not sure how to explain it.

New York, has the higest standards. California is actually pretty low.

There are a few states that are lower.

Say, I got my licence in New York. They have the highest standard of nursing. I would be able to take my licence any where in the united states because of the standard.

I heard california was raising their standard to a higher one. I just wanted to know what is was raised to.

So, yes it must be the pass Rate.

Sorry, but you are definitely not correct by a long shot here. Actually the same exam is written all over the country, there are no individual state boards and there have not been any for years and years.

And not sure where you heard that NY has higher passing standards than CA or anyplace else. That just is not the case and you are sorely misinformed on this bit of information.

To clear up any and all of the incorrect information that you do have:

1. Licenses are only valid in the state that they were issued for. Having a license from NY does not automatically get you a license in every other state.

2. NCLEX is a national exam and the same exam would be given to you no matter where you write it or the state that you are testing for. The exam does not know any of the specifics about you at all. You will receive questions based on how you answered the previous questions and no two exams are alike.

4. All that take the exam get 50% correct and 50% incorrect. They determine your passing by the level where you were getting the most correct in, no other numbers come into play and there is nothing about a 75% or any other number. It seems that you are speaking of the old state boards that no longer exist and have not since the NCLEX came into being.

5. The NCLEX exam has reciprocity, but licenses do not. If you wish to work in another state, you will have to apply for License by Endorsement and meet the educational requirements for the new state. Please be aware that not all programs are accepted in all 50 states.

You may be speaking of the the percentage that pass the NCLEX the first time, but then again, it is by the entire US and not state specific either.

About 88% of US grads pass the exam the first time, someplace in that range for the PN exam as well.

If each states standards were all the same. *e.g., Compact states* A nursing licence would be valid in every state, wouldn't it?

My teacher speaks of States setting their own standards. She also said that New York, had the highest standards of nursing.

Yes, the test is the same, I understand that.

But, Nclex no longer will show you your score, they only show you- pass or fail. Maybe it is diffrent in other states.

When you apply for a compact licence or a licence in another state, then they will send you your actual score. If it is below the standard of the state(s) that you are applying too, you will be excepted or be refused and have to sit for the nclex again to achieve a higher score.

This is what my teacher is telling me. I believe her. If she is wrong, well then she is. I just wanted to know the expectations of each state, but if it is unknown that is ok too.

Sorry, but that has nothing to do with it at all. And again, your information is completely off base as well as what your instructor has been telling you. There are no numerical results with the NCLEX exam for any state and since it is a national exam, the exam is the same no matter where you write the exam or the state that you test for. You are going to be given the same questions based on how you answered the previous ones. There is only pass or no pass as far as results, and the results actually have reciprocity with all 50 states and the US territories.

There are no standards as you are talking about, what you are speaking of is when each state had their own exam and that was more than 20 years ago. Sorry, but your instructor is giving you very outdated information.

Not all states participate in the Compact License Pact, and you also need to be aware that if one moves from the state where they received that license in, the Compact part ceases to exist and the license is only valid in the originating state.

I would truly recommend that you tell your instuctor about this forum, there is much that she needs to be aware of so that she can stop giving out incorrect information.

And as an additional sidenote to all of this, the Compact License pact has no relation to if one has passed or failed on the exam. There is no numerical score released as there is not one even offered anyplace, this exam is a CAT exam and does not give percentages. Everyone gets 50% correct and 50% incorrect. Depends on the level that you got your correct questions at. So another falicy from your instructor.

And the NCLEX is a national exam, it is not specific for any one state, that is what is meant by the N in the first letter of the word.

I would highly recommend that you take the time to do some reading on this forum and get this garbage out of your head about what your instructor is teaching you and you will see how wrong that she is.

This is definitely the time that teacher does not know best and is actually quite scary to me as well.

Well, thanks for all of your information. :)

I have not heard of any one getting a score even if moving states. All states are the same if you pass then that is all you are told but if you fail you get a print out that indicates areas you need to study up in. All states are the same

My teacher is a wonderful teacher. She is very convicted when she speaks about every topic, when it comes to nursing.

You know, when your a telamarketer, you have to believe in your product to get it sold.

Let me tell you this woman could sell anything when it comes to Nursing.

I am more than ok with being wrong. NO ONE is 100% right. I wasn't intending on upsetting anyone.

I look up to my teacher and believed what she said, when it came to this. But, when I tried to research it, I couldn't find any info that supported what she was saying.

Thats Why I Came here to ask.

So, thank you for clarifying everything.

I appreciate it.

I love this site, And have found so much helpful information here.
