Yes, I wondered if this is what he means as well. But this is 100% an HR thing and not something the school nurse should take on when it comes to providing specific info on paid leave. Does your school have policies on it?
I know because I've been walking a fine, fine line here with this myself. I'm the one getting data from staff when they complete our health screener prior to school entry and as COVID lead, I'm the person each employee must report a positive COVID case to. I know the general about leave, but I'm at the ready to refer folks to their direct manager and HR (while also protecting their HIPAA rights). But we have a very, very detailed COVID leave policy available that has been distributed and signed off on (along with our COVID workplace policies) by all staff.

I think this is something HR should be doing. I wouldn’t want to cross any lines that could run into legal troubles...
K...imma be snarky for a minute
They apparently have the right to know all the deets on any given child, regardless of whether they would have any contact with them...
They have the right to whine about kids with cold sx being in their rooms...
But best of all, they have the right to determine (what is or not covid referrable symptoms,) and stay in school all day with a sore throat and respiratory symptoms, with no plan to get a Covid test....cause they KNOW!!
