Does anyone know if any of theses hospitals hire without experience to take patient vitals etc. I would like to get my foot in the door while taking my pre-reqs.

John.. Do you ever get used to the smell?? Was it worth the pay and experience?

working as a student nurse/assistant isn't that bad. if you're on a heavy-duty floor like i am, then yes you will be wiping "dookie" off very sick patients' rear ends. but hey, this is all part of becoming a nurse. you have to be at the bottom of the totem pole somewhere. deal with it

No you never get used to the smell.. the worst thing is the beginning of your shift and then ALL night long you still smell it! It's kinda like a bathtub full of chocolate milk looking, foul smelling, stuff.
Whats the pay like?
How many hours do you have to work to be able to get health insurance?
Since I'll be going to school I would only like to work the minimum hours.
if you wait until you get into nursing school, then you can become a nurse tech, student nurse associate, etc. those tend to be contingent positions where you can work as much or as little as you'd like. the best part is you can adjust your work schedule around school. nursing assistant positions are either full-time or part-time commitments and far less forgiving to your school schedule. i work at karmanos and we get paid $14 which i do realize is a few dollars less than most institutions, but i love it there.
Are you a nurse tech or a student nurse associate?

The DMC starting pay for Student Nurse Associates is now 15.95. St. John's Pays more but the DMC lets you do a ton of stuff. Just FYI

St John has benefits if you work 40-47 hours in a pay period (2weeks), 48-69 hours, and 70-80 hours. The cost that you pay depends on how many hours you are hired in to work and if you need benefits for just you, spouse, or a family. They offer health, dental, vision, life, 403b with a match, short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, holiday pay, and TUITION REIMBURSEMENT, etc. Hope this helps
That would be perfect. I can definately work 20 - 25 hours a week while going to school.
Thanks for the info
Do you know if they are hiring?
I haven't started there yet. My first day is July 3rd but I've heard it can be pretty bad! LOL! I'll let you know in a few weeks really how bad it can be!!!
Don't forget to let me know what your first week was like Stephanie K.

Generally if you are a current nursing student in your medical surgical rotation they will accept you without a certification.
