**St. Johns, Beaumont, or Henry Ford...Job opprotunity question**

Published

Does anyone know if any of theses hospitals hire without experience to take patient vitals etc. I would like to get my foot in the door while taking my pre-reqs.

Some of the hospitals use to have patient sitter positions where you would sit and watch high risk patients, I am not sure if you need to know how to take vitals, they may teach you. I am not sure if they still have people that do that because of cutbacks from the bad economy. You may want to look into volunteering or maybe go get your CPR certification and see if you can get into home health care, or maybe work part time at a nursing home that will teach you how to be a cna if you are willing to work for them for a while.

Beaumont just had a round of layoffs and hiring freeze so it might be thin as far as a jobs like that. St John's hire techs/aids but they require you have a CNA certification typically. Don't know know so much about HFH.

Thanks for the info.

I'm also working on my pre-reqs right now and just got hired into Beaumont as an assistant and I'm not certified. So, it is possible!!! Good luck!!!

Hi Stephanie K

What do you do as an assistant and if you don't mind me asking how much is the pay?

She cleans up dookie and bathes overweight patients. $12-$13/hour.

Yep that's about it!

I know St John states on thier qualifications for a nurse assistant and/or PCT they want you to at least be enrolled in a nursing program and to have fundamentals completed. I'm not sure how strict they are about that.

How bad does the dookie get? lol

I haven't started there yet. My first day is July 3rd but I've heard it can be pretty bad! LOL! I'll let you know in a few weeks really how bad it can be!!!

If you are new to the medical profession, Google C-Diff (Clostridium Difficile). Then remember that the smell is FAR worse than the sight. So much so that you can often tell if a patient has C-Diff before you even enter their room. Unfortunately C-Diff is common in hospitals so you will be dealing it a lot. Far worse than any baby diaper you have ever experienced.
