1st Assignment= less pay?

I am currently talking to several agencies- The Quest Group, Travel Nurses Across America, Advantage RN. I'm interested in hearing from others about their experiences with these agencies and how they compare to eachother. TNAA seemed to have less benefits and pay. What they quoted for a TX job was really about the same I make now. One agency told me I'd make less for my 1st assignment because it's harder to get your 1st assignment. Is this true? And do you usually make less money at first?

How would I know if what they're offering is a fair amount? I take home about $750/week now as a FT staff nurse in OKC. I am hoping to make at least twice this much traveling. Is that realistic?

Specializes in ICU.

I'm planning on starting traveling in January, doing my research now on everything..I was wondering the same thing. Where are you looking to travel to?

Specializes in none.

I worked for Quest. They don't speak English. I tell them not to text they text. I tell the don't email they email. I tell them they can reach me by regular phone, They text. I tell them I can only go 40 miles away from home they try and send me 80 miles. I tell the not to call my cell phone because it is never on they try and call my cell phone, Then when they say they can't reach me, I tell them to start to use my home phone. They text.

first of all you should be looking at more than one agency for a job. secondly, tx is a low paying state but 750 a week is low if it includes housing. when i was offered an assignment the pay was 1200-1300 a week but i had to find my own housing. good luck. I hate when recruiters talk about a lower pay for first timers that so bull because they bill the hospital the same whether its your first time or 100th time. dont take any low pay. i asked one of my recruiters what the bill rate was since i was first timer she said it was the same so i told her not to low ball me and she didnt.

I got a call from an agency yesterday and they have an AZ job that will pay about $1600/week take home pay. It sounds pretty good but it's 7 on/7 off and I've never worked a schedule like that. The other higher paying jobs seem to be in CA. TNAA offered me two jobs yesterday in NC and TX. Both were around $700/ week take home with them paying housing. I'm supposed to get a telephone interview Mon. for the AZ job. They said they submitted my info this morning. Hoping it works out! Has anyone else had travel assignments in AZ with pay that good?

The thing about Texas is everything is sooo far and traffic SUCKS! The pay is low and by the time you get to and from your assignment that $700 goes straight to your tank!

Specializes in ER.

I worked 7 on/ 7 off for 4 months once. It was 10p-8a. It was pretty good because you get used to the routine, and then you have a vacation every other week. You are incommunicado from all your friends, though, the other week.

Specializes in Oncology, OR, Surgical, Orthopedics.

I've been with TNAA for 5 years. The pay can be a little on the low side at first, because they usually save the higher paying jobs for the travelers that have been with them a while. On the other hand, I love everyone in the company! They always have my back when I need it, will listen when I'm having a bad day, etc. and my housing has always been amazing! Let me know I you need names.

Well, I ended up taking a contract with Aya Healthcare, and start in a few weeks. It's on a navajo Reservation and the pay is worth it. My recruiter Jace and I were able to negotiate a contract that I was happy with, but it had to be revised three times before I signed it. And a big plus, since it's a federal job, I dobn't have to get an AZ license. So, I'll post after I get there and see how it's going. My OT pay rate I negotiated was $58/ hr with built in OT into my contract, so that made it worth it!
