Spring 2011 UT Health Sciences Nursing Hopefuls

Published

I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)

This is the school's website for financial aid...I went there and filled out my financial verification worksheet and went on to the FAFSA website from here to fill out that portion which they sent to the school once I completed it. I have to supply a signed copy of my tax return from 2009 and my w2's per the school's request and they will determine what and how much I am eligible for. My friend in her 3rd semester went through a bank because she is about 10+ years younger than I am (23, 24 or so) and she is still claimed by her parents so she didn't qualify for enough financial aid assistance which is why she just got the loan from her personal bank...Most banks have loans designed for students based on certain credit requirements and they aren't as high in interest as contemporary loans...

If you have questions go onto the school's website with the link above and get the number for the financial office at UT and they can definitely get you started.

Hope that is helpful some.

Is everyone required to fill out the verification worksheet? I just filled out my FAFSA and got an e-mail saying that Your FAFSA has been processed and the data will be made available to the school(s) listed on your FAFSA. I also got my SAR information.

A friend of mine suggested to me that I visit the financial aid office at the school after I receive my award letter .....and ask them if I am eligible for any other type of aid. Like maybe a gpa-based scholarship. Does this sound like a good idea? I mean, do students do this?

yeah, i have the same hold with pre requisites. Is there a registration deadline? My classes will be finished by the 17th, so it that going to leave time for me to get registered?

Yes, you'll definitely be able to register even though you have to wait until then. You will never have to worry about them running out of spots for you! :) Some of my friends couldn't get their transcripts in until after christmas and they still had plently of time!

I am planning to pay with grants and loans and I would also like to sign up for that work study program. Work study will give $500 a semester and there are perks that come with it.

My class (spring 2010) was not offered this work study program because UT isn't used to people starting in the spring and therefore didn't think about coordinating with the hospitals for the work study program. None of my class is in the work study program currently. Hopefully they've changed it for you guys. Make sure to ask them at orientation about this!

Hi! I'm hoping to get into UT Health Science for the Fall of 2011 after I graduate. Do you think that my age would work against me since I'll barely turn 18 on August 31st? I have all my pre-requisites done and I'll graduate with my associates in general studies in may. Also, I'm taking my HESI test in December and i was wondering if anyone had taken it already? I was wondering if it was on a computer or on paper and if the sections are timed or not? GAH...im so nervous about my career path getting put into motion in one semester. Any answers or advice would help. thank you!!!

I dont think that your age will work against you. I think its great that you know what you want to do career wise so early on. I would suggest doing volunteer work in a hospital so that you can be in the environment and make sure you like it and although you have no prior work experience in healthcare, I think that would help. Hesi is computer based and timed but i think you get like 4 or 5 hrs. to complete and i finished mine in 1 and half hours. Good Luck.

Got my packet today. Now I can OFFICIALLY accept, I'm putting my statement of intent in the mail today!! :yeah:

Great to hear! I've been patiently waiting. Excited to check my mail when I get home!

I haven't gotten my packet yet! :( And it's the 12th......weird.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the residency form hold to disappear? I mailed my form to them on Tuesday and my hold is still there...

Don't know how long it takes but my last hold is CPR and I faxed my copy on Tuesday and my hold is still there also. I will wait until Monday before I call to check.

Just to make sure, college algebra wasn't a pre-requisite right?

I got my acceptance in the mail today as well. Yay!!

thank you so much :) and yea I've been doing internships. One at a Pediatrician's Office and another at Clear Lake Regional in Webster. I feel so comfortable in a hospital setting and I just want to be able to actually DO some of the work that the nurses do during my internships. :) Again, Thank You so much for the information.
