Spring 2011 UT Health Sciences Nursing Hopefuls

Published

I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)

They don't send out emails every semester. I received and some of my friends received emails for the Spring of 2010 but not everyone got emails last semester. Depends on work load for admissions office and what is going on, who is out and who isn't. To have them send an email is simply a plus and even then they will tell you to wait for the admissions packet for definite confirmation EVEN if utlink changes. Remember guys and girls that we were given November 15th as the day to find out (either way) and we all knew that going in that if nothing else it would be by then. To see our status change is a bonus for us and they all do the best they can because they are human too. I know its frustrating, I'm inpatient about wanting to get started asap too. BUT, we will all know FOR SURE by the 15th so let's enjoy this time and be grateful we have it for those that know now. For you that haven't seen a change, UT will say wait until their deadline b4 you count yourself out. I was rejected twice and I was upset that they just wouldn't tell me ahead of time but the feeling of opening that letter was hard to take enough, even when I was told ahead of time the first time so don't rush it. Hope for the best everyone, and prepare for your next steps regardless of what has happened for us this far. The bible says prepare for rain and TRUST ME, I did that this time and the day I found out it literally poured...lol! Be patient and thankful we were all blessed enough to know something, anything at this point. We all earned this, even the ones that didn't find out yet, 3rd time was the charm for me.

OK so I made a facebook group --- UTHSC SON Class of 2012

I don't get this new facebook group design but I did it anyway. Soooooo go join it!

Hi Everybody,

For those with provisional admission as their status. I found some useful information in the UT Handbook which states the following:

Provisional Admission

"This category applies to students whose applications show that they fall below the full admission

requirements. Each student is reviewed on an individual basis. Provisional admission may be granted

at the discretion of the Baccalaureate Degree Council only for the deficiency of one (1) or two (2)

prerequisite course(s) in history, government or electives. All other courses must be completed prior

to admission."

"In order to be removed from provisional admission, the student must complete all outstanding

prerequisites with a minimum grade of "C" by the required date given. Failure to achieve full

admission status by the specified time period will result in a hold being placed on the student's

record. The student will not be allowed to progress in course work until the prerequisite course(s)

is/are complete."

I hope this helps.

I applied to UTMB. I interview there 10/15. I think their letters go out the first week of Nov. for my group.
ok i see, yeah i called utmb on monday and she said they were still sending out letters until the end of next week, which was kind of disappointing since i was on oct 4th. but hopefully we will hear soon!

I GOT IN!!!! Whew, what a relief!

Congrats to everyone else - can't wait to meet you all!

I am also provisional admission - finishing up my history classes and literature this fall - thank goodness they are almost over....

Has anyone already taken Pathophysiology and considering petitioning to be put in Advanced Patho?

That's a negative on the email.

I GOT INNNN!!!!! :D cant wait to see all of you in january!!!! and good luck to the rest!!!

OK, so I am posting my interview questions and writing sample so the next batch of applicants can prep.

Writing sample question: You are taking an exam and you realize that the answers are shown on the exam. What do you do and why? *I think the theme for the writing sample was academic honesty*

Interview questions: What do you think a nurse does? Define/give an example of compassion. How do you handle dissapointment? Out of the hundreds of applicants - who are all qualified - why should we choose you / what is unique about you?

Mine writing sample was similar. It was about your friend having already taken an quiz online that you had to take and they were trying to convince you to use their answers since you weren't doing very well in the class.

I had similar interview questions but I didn't get that last one. I got have you ever gotten a D or an F in a class as well as the disappointment question. She asked what I thought a nurse did and what qualities they needed to have. I had one about telling a time when I had to show compassion.

The person who interviewed me said I answered the questions well, she thought I would succeed in the program, and she was going to give me a positive recommendation. My status still hasn't changed so I am getting a little discouraged. I was hoping to find out because if it's good news it would be an awesome birthday present!

Happy Birthday Airycha!

Thanks :)

My interview questions were the same as the others already posted, but my writing sample was different. Mine was "you are the night manager at whataburger, and you have an employee who is never at his grill and doesn't adequately do his job. What do you do about the employee?" I have no real idea what this has to do with nursing school, but okay lol :-)
