Spring 09 Orientation...when is yours?

Published

To all of those that are starting the nursing program this Spring when is your orientation? Mine is next Friday 11/21.:yeah:I am so excited/nervous:uhoh21: . I still have to get my BLS certificate, before I start the program. I'm thinking about going this weekend to just get it out the way.

I went to my schools bookstore and while i was there I went over to look at what books are used for RN1, one of the guys that work there said with everything it can easly cost up to $700 for books. I told him I didn't care what the books cost, I plan to buy them all:D

Good Luck To All :icon_hug:

Ours is 11/21 next Friday also or 12/2... I'm choosing the 11/21 because I want to know all the specifics now :chuckle Let's keep this thread alive and post back after orientation.

So since we are starting in Spring 2008, does it mean we will graduate/finish December 2010 making us class of 2010 still?

Hello TexasTee :), when you graduate all depends on how long your program is. For example, the BSN portion of my program will begin and end in the same year, 2009. However graduation takes place in Jan. 2010. Many schools graduates students 3 times per year; Jan, June and September. However, they often hold only one BIG ceremony which is usually in May or June depending on the school. Good luck Texas, and all of us embarking on our journey next year... better yet, in 2 months:bugeyes:!!!

EDIT: Sorry Texas... I didn't know "Nurse2Be 2010" had already answered your question.

Mine doesn't state orientation, but we have to go to a mandatory nursing boot camp, on Jan 13 and 14, 8 hours both days. I'm thinking this will be our orientation. So excited!

My program is for two years with summers off.:yeah: So count me in for the finish date of Dec 2010. The oreintation is only scheduled to last for 2 1/2 hours :anbd: they must going to have us come back another day. The actual day of class is Jan 12. so much to do in these next couple of weeks.:eek:. Let keep each other updated as much as our time will allow.

I know that we ALL will get through this with strong perserverance, just like the ones whom have taken this journey already. :icon_hug:

My program is an accelerated ADN (we go straight through the summer) so I will graduate at the same time as the people who started this fall in May 2010. Hooray for the class of 2010!!!!!!!!

hEY everyone here is my latest update...:clown:

To my surprise I went to register for a P.E. class that I have left to take for my general ed. While registering I found out that my class schedule for the nursing program is already posted:yeah:. My classes are all day and early afternoon, which I'm so happy. The latest I will be in class is 2:30. I know they have some classes that will last til 7pm but for those classes you dont start until late in the day. I am starting to get really nervous now...oh no wait...I think I have to :barf02:

~~*Please share anything that you are doing to prepare for the start of the program?

I had my orientation yesterday. It went from 8am till 4pm. It was pretty hectic. Heaps of information to take in, but they discussed things like financial aid, our booklist, vaccinations, uniforms, study tips, sooo many things i can't even remember it all. Already have our classes for the first semester, I have lab on mondays 8am til 10.50am, clinicals on tuesdays 6.45am til 12.45pm, yes they were all like this so there wasn't much choice lol and lecture on thursday 1pm til 4pm. When you got there you had to pick a number out of bowl for scheduling purposes later and i picked number 108 (out of 120) so by the time my number come up i didn't have much choice in classes. Also have to sign up for pharmacology which will likely be monday or wednesday afternoon.

Have another mandatory meeting on jan 6th where we will take some critical thinking tests (it's not a pass or fail type thing) and discuss more of the things we discussed in orientation. and Jan 15th we had to sign up to meet our advisors to turn in all our paperwork for vaccinations and cpr etc.

AussieAndy,

How exciting! Congratulations on your acceptance. My orientation is not until Dec. 4th - which seems like forever!! Oh well, i am just thankful that i'm actually getting the opportunity to attend nursing school! It is so very competitive.

Congrats to you also. Dec 4th will be here before you know it. We were told at my school that it was the most competitive that they have ever seen it so it makes those of us who were accepted very proud.

I have orientation on December 22nd, I cant wait.

My orientation is December 1st with classes starting on Jan 5th. :D

Thanks AussieAndy,:D

My schedule is as follows; on Mondays I have Labs/clinicals, 8am-11:40, Lectures are Wed & Fri 8am-10:15 and clinicals on Thurs. 7am-2:45. I also signed up for a Pharmacology class, it wasn't required but I feel it wouldn't hurt to get more knowledge.

Today I went and got my Basic Life Skills(BLS) for healthcare professionals certification. It was an excellent class. I also heard that there where 900 applicants:eek:, but I'm not sure how many they select through the lottery system. I'm thinking anywhere from 50-60 people.
