Spring 2010 Nursing Program Acceptance-Lawson State

Published

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything regarding the Spring 2010 RN or LPN program at Lawson State?

Hi,

Maybe I will receive something today. I checked the Lawson State student suite a few minutes ago and still nothing. Have you already taken Math 116. I'm just hoping for the best. I've already taken Bio 201, Eng 101 & 102, I just finished Math 116 this term. I made a 84 on my Compass so hopefully my points stand-out enought to get me in. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Oh yeah, let me know the fees of your immunizations too. In case I get in I will have an estimation.

I am still waiting as well. I took me weeks to get someone to answer the phone. I finally spoke with someone on Monday and I was told that the letters would be mailed on Wednesday. I live in Calera and I am still waiting. Congratulations pixiegalsmom!

what program did you all apply for, RN(mobility) or LPN?

Well, I just checked the mail and still no letter. :(

Hey Vharris,

I had a short day at work today. Came home and checked the mail...Nothing from Lawson. I applied to the LPN program. I want to call the school just to see if they mailed a letter with my name on it, but I don't want to make anyone feel like I'm harassing them. Student Suite is another way you can tell if you're in or not..If your advisor's name has changed, but I was told that the site may not be up until tomorrow. Last year I applied and didn't get a letter at all! What program did you apply to? What prereqs have you already taken? I want to know about the points I have. Let's keep our fingers crossed. I live down the street from UAB. Maybe because we live a good distance from the school is the reason our letters haven't come yet...Good Luck!!!

Hi Brighterfuture and Vharris,

I have already taken all my "non-nursing" classes and I just finished BIO202 on Tuesday. So when I start the program in Jan., all I will have to take is NUR courses. I still haven't heard back from the secretary, I have a feeling she's already on holiday. I was told that Student Suite won't be back up until the 22nd or 23rd as grades are being posted, so I will have to wait to pre-register. I have been scrambling all day to get immunization info. I was able to secure a copy of my MMR that I took out of state several years ago. Went to the Shelby Co. Health Dept. not knowing you need an appt., so I go back next Thurs. to get Tetorifice and TB Skin. They (health depts. and some doctors offices) don't do titers for Varicella and you must have one done to see if you need the varicella vaccine or if you have enough immunity already. They referred me to a clinic in Alabaster that does titer drawings so I've got an appt for that on Monday. Both the Shelby Co. and Jeff. Co. health depts are out of Hep B vaccine for adults. It's on order and they don't know when it will be delivered. I called around to a couple of clinics to see if they had Hep B vaccine. If you do need this immunization, be prepared for sticker shock. Hep B at the health depts. runs around $55 per shot (and you need a series of 3 shots for full immunity). Elsewhere I was quoted anywhere from $103 to $135 per shot for the Hep B! I've registered to take CPR training Jan. 2nd and that will cost $20. There's also a mandatory background screening that costs about $30. And we haven't even talked about uniforms, books and tuition. I know what I want Santa to leave in my stocking --- Lots & Lots of MONEY!!!!!

Oh my goodness!!! I barely have money for gas!!! I won't get a full check until I become a nurse..LOL..Well, still nothing today so I will just have to sit tight..I will keep you posted!

Thanks! I got my acceptance letter in this afternoon's mail along with some things that have to be taken care of(immunizations, CPR, etc). I'll have to go to the Health Dept. tomorrow and get some boosters. I also enrolled for CPR training with the Hoover Fire Dept. that will take place right after New Year's. I knew that it would all hit at once and of course with the Holidays upon us! Oh, well! Let me know when you hear something!

hey I need to get my CPR card updated also, How do you go about doing this? With the hoover fire department

Yes, the next CPR class for Health Professionals is Jan. 2. You can go to their website, www.hooveral.org and go through a couple of links (fire dept, cpr training and enrolling) to fill out the online form and submit. They will reply to you within 24 hrs. to let you know if openings are still available for that date.

Hang in there, Brighterfuture! The mail can be slow this time of year. I'm going to the bookstore today to see what books will be required for next semester and then compare the bookstore's prices to those online. Last semester I saved over $100 buying my books online.

Hi,

Now I'm thinking that my letter hasn't been mailed yet b/c I called the secretary this morning and she said they were working on them at that moment..it could be next week before I get something.

They have really messed things up this go-round, haven't they? Well, I know it's going to be a LONG weekend for you, but keep the faith and stay busy:coollook:

Hi,

I know! Just keeping my fingers crossed and hoping some things are really worth the wait!:specs:
