Now that January is here, I thought I'd start a thread where we can support and encourage each other through our Spring semester, similar to our Fall thread, but with a bit more chit chat. What's your schedule look like? Any other goals you're working on?
I go back on the 17th, though I have a Phi Theta Kappa meeting on the 13th.
My schedule is:
A&P II
Microbio
Federal Government
World Religions
The last two are online.
Right now I'm trying to lose this holiday weight, so I've started running again (it burns). I graduate at the end of this year! In December I'll have my EMT-B certification and my Associates of Science in Biology. I'll also be applying to nursing school (application deadline is August 1), so it's going to be a really exciting (busy) year for me! I'm hoping to use my EMT-B cert to become an ED tech during the summers.
I look forward to chatting with you guys this semester!
@ItsThatJenGirl and @Eleven
I'm literally OBSESSED with Stranger Things!! I've watched the series 3 times now and I'm sure I'll watch it again before season 2 starts. haha But those kinds of shows are totally up my alley since my other 2 favorite shows of all-time are Lost and Criminal Minds.
But anyway, major procrastination has officially set in. I have 3 exams next week and 3 finals the week after and my brain is just like, nope. lol I know I have to keep up my motivation though because I literally only have 3 days off in between my spring and summer semesters... And I'll be studying for/taking the TEAS at the end of the summer as well, once my 2 summer school courses are over. And then it's time for fall semester! So I honestly won't have any time off from school until winter break in December...
YESSSSSS Lost !)
I got an 82 on the micro exam and it was for really stupid, small mistakes, so I am kicking myself. And yet I know, an 82 is still decent, I should keep my A unless I really mess something up in the next week. I'm just remembering how I got an 89 in AP1 because of small mistakes and how that may be the difference in waitlist and acceptance. BUT! I am trying to remain positive. What's done is done and all that.
We can do this, crossfit. We are gonna take the next two weeks, stomp on them, and make them do our bidding. Or something. I'm glad to have you guys because when I start to feel like procrastination, I come here and cry about it, then go kick my butt into motion again.
Is everyone applying for Spring entry? Or not yet? I wish you were all going to school with Jen and I - see, how's that for positive? We are totally getting in! But at least if we are all starting together, we will go through the process together!

I'm 37! I didn't know you were the same age! No wonder we get along :)
Next week is nuts for me, too. Four exams and two papers. The week after is finals, and I have three. I get 12 whole days off before summer school, then I get a month off (CAN'T WAIT!) until my EMT program.
You know I'm applying for Spring 2018. There are two programs here, in addition to the UTA one. Hopefully I get into one!
I'm sure you will get in to one, if not all of them! I am applying to three (two at UTA and my old CC) and I'm really, really hoping UTA will pick me up but I'm not sure. They factor in the non-science pre-reqs and those aren't the best (3.5ish) so I'm expecting some waitlisting. :/ Too soon to get too worried about it, I guess, since decisions won't come until after summer.
I really need to get this last lab practical for micro out of the way.

My non-science GPA is not very good, thanks to classes I took when I was 17. My GPA for those is 3.2 (which was a shock), science 4.0. I'm not sure how competitive I am in general honestly - though with all the other classes I've taken my GPA is more competitive. I wasn't worried about it before I joined this site, oddly enough.
Manic week this week. I have a test every single day (except Friday, no school on Friday's). I graduate in 9 days!
Hope everyone has a stellar week! xo
I ran out of time on my practical with six questions to go but I managed an 80, so it's not the worst. I think all I need on the last exam is an 80 to keep my A in the class, so that shouldn't be too bad. Three exams this week and then I am doooone for three weeks (I think? I need to check if my first class starts the 15th or 22nd.)
They changed the MyMav interface and it's ruined my day @Jen. haha not really but I don't care for how it looks now, I can't get around as quickly.
Are the other two programs ranking the same way, science gpa and overall? I have a couple of C's in really stupid things that they are factoring in, and I don't have enough time to retake them, so I am just crossing my fingers and hoping it's good enough.
I'm currently "studying" for my skills lecture final tomorrow! I'm so nervous because I need a 78% on it to pass with a 76% in the class. Surprisingly, it seems like the majority of my peers, including myself, are doing well in our other two classes but are struggling in this class. This class has the easiest content but the instructor words all of her exam questions so screw-y.
Faculty members from our next semester's course came to speak to us and answer our questions today. We got an idea of how scheduling will be and where our clinical sites may be.
Also, I got a call back about a job on my dream unit, mother-infant! I'm so excited omg. It's perfect timing too since we have OB clinicals in the Fall. I currently work in the ED so I know it's going to be a huge contrast but I'm getting sooo burnt out in my current position.

Are you a CNA? What's burning you out? Do you love school? I have so many questions for you!!!
Yes, I'm a CNA, I think that's our unit's basic requirement for our tech positions. But we do have some techs that are EMT-Bs rather than CNAs. My ED is just so frustrating sometimes because of the lack of organization and teamwork. I could scream sometimes lol. I honestly like my job and most of my coworkers but half the time we're not on the same page. We also have a low retention rate and it takes time to hire and train staff so we suffer while waiting. I'm one of the more tenured techs and I've only been there for about a year and a half now.
At times, I am either the only tech or 1 of 2 techs for the entire ER and most of the time we have at least 30 beds open, not to mention triage/lobby patients and patients that come by EMS who don't have rooms and have to wait in a bed in the hallway until they can get one.
Sometimes, because of lack of nurses, we only have the staff to keep ~16 beds open. The past couple nights this has been the case. Factor in psych patients and sometimes we're only working with 8 beds after midnight. Oh, and since we're an ER, we never really know what type of patients will come through the doors :)
Anyway, yes! I really do like school. I am still so glad I'm finally in the program. tbh I was getting so sick of prerequisites and wasn't REALLY interested in any of those classes. The only prerequisites I enjoyed were anatomy and developmental psych. I love knowing what they're talking about at work when they reference to meds, diseases, and other medical terminology. I'm even able to help the nurses with terms when they're charting now I'm starting to be able to identify possible causes for patient symptoms. That is a huge pro of working in the ER; you see SO MANY DIFFERENT PEOPLE. There are still times where I hear nurses say that they've never seen something.

UT Health requires more classes, so my GPA is higher with those taken into consideration. My base GPA for UTA will rise once I finish up the the last of the prereq's, too (they haven't counted anything I've taken this semester. So I'm not losing hope yet.

I'm at the point where I'm pretty done with my pre-req's too. Just ready to move onto the next phase. Four more classes this summer and I'm officially done.
I'm hoping my EMT-B cert will get me in the ER. I want to see how I like it!

It was great! I got to cuddle/feed/bathe and even get temps on the little ones. The nurses were so nice and answered my barrage of questions. I can't wait to go back :)
