Okay guys, tell me if you think this is a good idea: since allnurses.com does not have spell checker, I thought it might be helpful to have a thread where we could go to check our spelling. I don't want to sound high and mighty, but it would be so nice to see proper spelling on this website. I am not talking about the typos (reversing letters and such), but actual incorrect spelling of words that we should know! I hope that I have not offended anyone and will close the thread if I p**s off too many people! I am going to start with the one word I see spelled incorrectly most often: "definitely".

Atheos 2,098 Posts Apr 11, 2009 Firefox also has an integrated spell checker...Of course, if we do spelling then grammar is a must. We probably shouldn't go there though. There is a grammatical error in your very first sentence.

GilaRRT 1 Article; 1,905 Posts Apr 11, 2009 Not sure it would work in our melting pot of a country. I quickly learned that English has different "rules" overseas. I still find myself typing words such as "centre" and "cheque."

Apr 11, 2009 thanks for the reference in wiki.. i love debating spelling and grammar! this is what it said: "as with many other punctuation marks, the usage of colon varies among languages and, for a given language, among historical periods. as a rule, however, a colon informs the reader that what follows proves and explains, or simply enumerates elements of what is referred to before.syntactical-deductive: introduces the logical consequence, or effect, of a fact stated before syntactical-descriptive: introduces a description—in particular, makes explicit the elements of a set appositive: introduces a sentence with the role of apposition with respect to the previous onei thought that maybe the appositive use of the colon was correct. what do you think? can you tell i have no life??? lol

Regardless, you are obviously quite intelligent. But this thread was to be about the spelling issues on this board. What I am thinking is that the ones who need it the most, will not even look at this posting!
