SPC Nursing Fall 2018

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hey Everyone!

Thought I would be the first person to start a SPC Nursing Fall 2018 thread. Even though we still have one semester left before applying, I thought I would start a thread to get the ball rolling and to see where everyone stands. If are applying for the program in Fall of 2018, please let us know the amount of credits you will have at the time of applying and what your cumulative and program GPA's are. As for me, I will have 30 of 30 credits completed and a cumulative GPA of 3.9, with a program GPA of 4.0.

It came from Dr. Marguarite Pels? And it actually came to my gmail account which I thought was odd.

Looks like we have the same class together!

Just FYI,

I've been hearing CVS got a shipment of the flu shot. Call before you go to make sure

Awesome! Are you going to fill out those pages of the workbook? I was confused since she said to read it...

Has everyone purchased their books and scrubs already? With me being out of town this weekend I'm not going to be able to purchase them until I get back on Tuesday and I'm stressing a little bit that they won't have the package in stock or scrubs available in my size. I would call the bookstore to check on the stock but they are already closed and will be until Monday. :nailbiting: I wanted to buy everything earlier but I had to wait for some scholarship money to be awarded haha!

They should have the Elsevier packages. They are/were out of the Davis's Drug Guide for Nurses, but I ordered those books on Amazon because they were cheaper and because they were out of that one book at the time. It was also on backorder on Amazon, but I just got the email today that I should have it by the 8th or 9th of August. They were out of my size of scrubs at Scrubs and Stuff and they had to order them and then embroider them. I should have those by next Tuesday, but it has taken them over a week to get them in and then embroider them.

Has anyone bought a rolling backpack or any other kind of rolling cart? If so, which one did you get that will hold all these books? LOL! I am really hoping that they tell us which books to bring and which days. It seems like an awful lot of books to be using all the time. Plus, that skills kit bag isn't exactly light either. Too bad they don't have lockers at the school.

I am not going to buy a rolling backpack (an unpopular opinion on this forum) but I cant imagine they want all of our books on us at all times. If so I will adjust but until then I am going to figure out how things work best for me.

Additional question: has anyone gotten an email from the instructors regarding anything?? I know one other person had but I didnt know if anyone else had.

I have not received anything from the instructors. I'm hoping that they put our classes on MyCourses soon and upload the newest handbook to the nursing commons. The school told me that they upload the new handbook a week before classes start, so hopefully by Monday.

So I got my titer results back today and I am immune to Varicella, Measles, and Rubella, but not Mumps. Ugh! This means that I have to do the whole series of MMR over again. Thing is, you have to get 2 vaccinations and the second one has to be 28 days after the first. I won't have this completed by 8/13 obviously, so I am hoping that they don't kick me out of the program because of it. I'm sure that I am not the only one that this has happened to though.

I'm not immune to mumps either but they didn't say I needed a second vaccination for this.

I went to financial aid on July 19th to ask them to extend my book line of credit so I could purchase the books. She said it would take 1-2 days but a week later it still hadn't been extended. I then went to see another financial aid person at the health campus to ask again and he also said it would take 1-2 days. I had to go a third time and got the email of the person who actually does it and spoke with her and it still hasn't been done. They know I'm going into the nursing program and school is starting soon. I'm really hoping it will have been extended by next week or I won't have any books when school starts.

I also haven't received any emails from any teachers either. I was hoping they would let us know what to bring the first day of school.

Yes, if you don't have immunity to one of them, then you have to do the series all over again. I'm getting the first series done on the 6th and the second one 28 days later. I've already notified Kathy Boylson and she said it was fine and to let her know so that she can mark it complete in Castlebranch.
