SPC Nursing Fall 2018

Published

Hey Everyone!

Thought I would be the first person to start a SPC Nursing Fall 2018 thread. Even though we still have one semester left before applying, I thought I would start a thread to get the ball rolling and to see where everyone stands. If are applying for the program in Fall of 2018, please let us know the amount of credits you will have at the time of applying and what your cumulative and program GPA's are. As for me, I will have 30 of 30 credits completed and a cumulative GPA of 3.9, with a program GPA of 4.0.

Hey guys has anyone been able to find the correct handbook signature page?? I found a 2017-2018 summer but not 2018-2019 fall page like it specifies on CB.

You get it the first day of class

Is anyone getting their books anyplace besides spc? Like amazon?

I purchased the required textbook package (in print) at the SPC bookstore. I noticed that one of the books listed as "required" on mySPC was not included in the package (Fundamentals Success Q + A w/ Access). When I called the bookstore, they said that this book was optional. Is anyone else seeing that it is required on their lists? I am section 2333 and I just want to make sure I have everything I need.

The Fundamentals Q&A is an optional book. I don't think the MySPC is very accurate haha. If you go into MyCourses > College of Nursing commons > Course content > Book lists > Book lists for Session I 18-19 it will have a list of all the books that should be included in the package, the other 4 required books we need, and the list of optional ones. Fundamentals is listed under optional. It has that same list on one of the pages that was handed out during orientation, but I can't find that right now lol. However, I can't find the F.A. Davis package that we need on the bookstore's website, so maybe they'll be able to locate it for me at the bookstore when I go later this week. I could always buy them separately but I'd like to know if I could save some money with the package.

I priced them out and to rent them through Amazon is a good bit cheaper than buying the package and the other books we need. But I've been given the advice to buy them instead of renting them, for use in future semesters, in which case it's cheaper in the long run to go through the bookstore. Even through my pre-req's it was always cheaper to rent/buy directly from the bookstore, SPC doesn't really jack up the prices like some of the universities do. :)

YES!! I called the bookstore and went around and around with them about it. It is actually an optional book and they should take it off their site. There is too much to do for the program without added confusion!

I went through everything on the Elsevier list and the books are cheaper on Amazon, however there are 2 items that Amazon doesn't carry that are in the package. I just went ahead and bought the print package because we are going to be using these books throughout the program. I purchased the F.A. Davis Package and Prentice Hall Bundle through Amazon because they were cheaper than the bookstore and plus, the bookstore was/is out of the F.A. Davis package and they don't know when they are getting anymore in. I wasn't taking the chance. Plus, the price match for the bookstore only covers individual books, it does not cover bundles.

To anyone still needing their physical- The NUHS that is on campus AND on 66th St and 78th is completely free. I went to the one at 66th St and 78th Ave and they are amazing! The chiropractor that runs the clinic is really nice and the staff can get you in anytime. They also offer titers, acupuncture, chiropractic care FOR FREE- the ONLY thing you pay for are supplies like the acupuncture needles (2.00) and Standard Process, which is a fantastic supplement brand is AT COST!

This is not only for you but for anyone else living in your house. AND for everyone else they use a sliding scale which means super cheap or free. Take advantage of this service, the people are wonderful and the services I have received are better than going to my current chiropractor. They don't rush you and take it one step at a time because the interns are learning still.

Ahh, gottcha! I just assumed that the bookstore list would be accurate. I didn't even think to check my other resources. Thank you!

I got my Davis package at the bookstore. I had to buy them seperately because they were out of the bundle. I believe the difference was $10, so I just went ahead and bought them there.

Has anyone checked recently for the Davis package and if it is in stock? Also does anyone know were to get the badge clip that goes on easier than the one that came with our ID

Who is attending the workshops next week? I am going to all of the earlier ones.
