Hello!
I am finishing up my pre-reqs and will be submitting an application for the fall 2011 start of the nursing program at SPC. I am already super nervous and it seems like the horror stories of rejection due to GPA are getting worse! Is anyone else as nervous as I am?
spc_student every semester is different but they typically have to pull from the alternate list to fill the program. i was an alternate last fall and got in. in a few weeks you'll get a letter with information about a mandatory meeting for alternates. make sure you go because if you don't you lose your spot in line. every alternate is ranked using spc’s point system. i don’t want to fill you with false hope but if you’re near the top of the list you have a decent shot at getting in. they will continue to fill seats up until the last minute to ensure the program the program is full. i think i got called two days before the last orientation session.... good luck
Spring 2010 I think only 3-4 alternates made it in out of 26. As dp133 said, it does depend on the semester and definitely attend the alternate orientation. If you don't, you're wiped off the list - I attended the last alternate orientation and if I remember correctly 5 or 6 didn't show up, so that bumps you up depending on where you are GPA wise. Good luck!!
Congrats to everyone who got in !! I unfortunately was rejected first and second pool. I have a 3.666 gpa and all classes complete. I am going to apply again for the Spring semester. I really really hope I don't get rejected again! Does anyone know if they have accepted 3.6's with all coursework completed in the Spring semesters before? I know every pool of applicants tends to vary, but it just seems to be progressively getting harder and harder each semester. good luck to the alternates as well!
emmarie sorry about your bad news, but all is not lost. double check and make sure you indeed have all your classes done. where you still taking support classes when you applied for the fall? you're right that every class is different but with all your classes done and a 3.66 you're a good candidate for the "first pool." remember there are more seats available in the first pool as they fill 70% of the program from the first pool. don't give up and good luck
emmarie Please note that the SPC program is becoming very highly competitive with GPA avgs at an all time high. A 3.66 sounds good but from my experience with others who have had GPA's of 3.6's of late have all been rejected. Most of these students are retaking those courses where they have rec'v a C or have had a lower grade transfer from another college. If your one of those students that fall under this category and have the time to retake that particular class to improve your GPA, by all means do it. I'm not trying to diminish your hopes, I'm just trying to offer some realistic advice to stay competitive and improve your chances. Take care and all the best.
