SPC fall 2011 nursing program

Published

Hello!

I am finishing up my pre-reqs and will be submitting an application for the fall 2011 start of the nursing program at SPC. I am already super nervous and it seems like the horror stories of rejection due to GPA are getting worse! Is anyone else as nervous as I am?

I was told I # 3. But i have no idea what are my chances. Will you be attending the interview tomorrow?

Your chances are a lot better than mine, i'm #9. From reading previous posts, I think you have a good chance. What is your GPA if you don't mind me asking? I did go to the interview this morning, I don't think I interviewed to well though.

Every semester is different but I'd say since both of you are in the top ten your odds are pretty good. For the fall of 2010 alternates in the low 20's made it (but I don't think that happens very often....) Make sure you attend the alternate meeting. Think positive and if you're this close for the fall semesters chances are you'll be accepted for the spring. GOOD LUCK!!!

low 20's? wow, thats awesome, prob really rare though. Thank you for the encouragement. Im still waiting to hear when the alternate meeting will be.

There were so many people there. I am not very confident about my interview also, but hey it was worth a shot. I have a 3.8 GPA with A's in all my science classes. I have 2 B's one in stat and the other in humanities. I think they take that into consideration also. I am guessing yours is very close to mine.

I received my alternate meeting letter today, it's July 13th at 10:00am HEC room 177E. They said the session will last 45 mins

Low 20's definitely will give us both a chance. I hope we both get in! Thank you dp133 for the encouragement.

dp133- I noticed in previous posts you mentioned you were an alternate also how was the process for you and what do you think about the program thus far. It would be great to get the perspectives of someone who was in our shoe at one time.

I have a 3.8 as well, there must have been several 3.8s if there is 5 others between us lol. Yea I figured I might as well go to the interview although I would much rather prefer to get in through SPC. It seems like a good alternative though. I'm glad the meeting is soon, hopefully they can answer many of our questions.

Good luck to you guys!! Last semester (spring 2011) I think only 3 alternates made it in, if that. It all depends on the semester, but with so many expansion program seats available it might make the numbers higher for this semester. We had our orientation last Thursday and there is so much to do before the semester starts!! Keeping my fingers crossed and keep us updated!!

Indeed I was an alternate for the program and got in last fall. SPC does everything they can to make sure the program is full, which is why they have alternates. At the alternate meeting you'll get some information about the program and asked to rank the available schedules according to your preference. Schedules are determined by clinical site along with time (day or evening classes). They fill available seats according to how alternates are ranked and try to work with your preference. There is a late orientation session for HEC students. Keep this date open as they will continue to fill seats up until this date. I got a phone call two days before orientation asking if I could attend and start the program. The only draw to being accepted late and the late orientation is you have less time to get everything done. You'll need to do ATI testing, get a physical, drug test, shots, CPR certification... It can be overwhelming but don't panic you don't need to have everything done by the first day of class. Good luck.

Did anyone attend the session yesterday on Largo 12 seat expansion? Would like to keep in touch to see how that progresses.

Has anyone heard back from the Largo Med interviews yet? If not does anyone know when and how they will be notifying us whether they picked us or not?

Thanks, and good luck! : )

Hi there. I found out that acceptees were notified by phone early in the week. Others not accepted will be notified by mail. Hope this helps.
