  1. My son is 8 and is in the 75th percentile for weight (95th for height!). His pediatrician told me he could safely gain up to 10 pounds and still be perfectly fine. I have always believed in "everything in moderation." He gets fast food treats from time to time, or dessert, but he also eats a balanced diet as well. I have never catered to him when it comes to eating; he has to try at least one bite but if he doesn't like it, he just has an empty belly. Too many parents give in to what is easy or what keeps the kids from throwing a fit.
  2. My son broke his arm on Memorial Day and my ER bill was $3800. Thank heaven for insurance which knocked my out of pocket down to $1600. After almost $26000 in bills last time I had to go to the ER, I was thankful it was so low!
  3. I had a 3.633 with all courses completed for Fall and I got in on the first pool.
  4. haimyem - still waiting with you. I called advising and was told they are working on getting the orientation info out to us. The tentative date I got for orientation was the 30th of this month. Can't wait to see you there!!
  5. I have been wondering about this same thing for when I start school in August. Same issue, tat on my left wrist about an inch-and-a-half square.
  6. I'm in the same boat as K girl. I will be pretty much living off of my student loans come fall. That being said, I did all of my pre-req's part-time to avoid having to take out loans before I started the program. It took longer but I'm only going to have four semesters worth of student loan debt, rather than 8 or 9. Thanking my lucky stars for that.
  7. I too have been getting a ton of motivation from this site. And one of my favorite quotes (which I think I just posted on another thread this morning) is keeping me going too: "One half of knowing what you want is knowing what you must give up before you get it." -- Sidney Howard. And just remember that it's only temporary. Nursing school will end. Do what you have to in order to get where you want to be.
  8. I have a coworker that does not even attempt to pronounce words correctly. And when I get frustrated and correct her, she brushes it off with a "Yeah, whatever." Really chaps me when she mutilates a patient's name. Even though we do not deal directly in patient care, it is still a respect thing for me.
  9. Will definitely agree on the subjectivity of the "minimum" GPA. SPC claims 2.5 but I've seen people with a 3.6 get rejected. It can be extremely frustrating. I applied 4 times before I finally got accepted. If this is truly your dream, don't give up! Keep pushing down whatever avenue you can!!
  10. Sending you big hugs!! For what it's worth, I started having severe shoulder pain a little over a year ago. After tons of tests and meds and useless crap, I was finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia. The pain is still the worst in my shoulder at random moments. Just throwing it out there, not sure if you have any of the other symptoms. I was told it generally causes pain in the muscles but will settle in the joints in some people, i.e. me. Hope you feel better!!!!
  11. "One half of knowing what you want is knowing what you must give up before you get it." --Sidney Howard "Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional." --M. Kathleen Casey "There is no paycheck that can equal the feeling of contentment that comes from being the person you are meant to be." --Oprah Winfrey "I am doing the best I can given what I have today." --Jillian Michaels
  12. I know St Petersburg College looks at your GPA for the pre-req's and not the overall.
  13. I will be starting in the fall as well. My first thought when I recovered from the excitement of getting my acceptance letter was "now what?" My whole focus to this point had been working on getting in and I wasn't functioning on what I do next. My sister-in-law is graduating (today!) with her doctorate in nursing and told me she felt the same. She reminded me that when school gets hard and all you can think about is how easy it would be to give up, you have to remember that you chose this. You are working your tail off to be what you want to be and help people. Nursing school will eventually end and you will have a career that can last you the rest of your life.
  14. Just got my letter in the mail yesterday so I will be starting with you guys. So excited!!
