South University FNP MSN program???

Updated:   Published

So did anyone or is anyone currently in the FNP or Adult NP online program at this time? I spoke to an admissions rep and was really impressed. The set up is nice with one course at a time, although was told you can talk to your advisor and sometimes layer your courses here and there as well (like an 11wk course with one 5.5 wk course) which I'd prefer to do to get done faster...since I did my ASN at Excelsior and am finishing my BSN I'm well used to online format courses and have my time down to a science. I was planning on beginning my application process now, so that in December we submit everything with the potential to start the first week of Feb 2014...anyone else??? Any thoughts???

Hi EJN,

How is the classes going so far? I am entering APN1 and Research next week. Is its doable? Doubling those classes? I have doubled up on my previous 3 classes (Adv Theory, Patho and Adv Practice Nurse).

The classes are doable.. It is set up in a way you can log anytime as long as you submit the assignments by the due date. FYI the class is self study. There are no powerpoint or notes the professors give you. If you are a person that learns themselves this is a good program. The textbooks are all digital and you do not have to purchase them. Free via South digital bookshelf. If you want to buy or rent the books you can. I did with my patho book because I need to actually hold a textbook, its up to you. The admissions team is very helpful. You can call them anytime and also IT support. They give you Miscrosoft for free also since I did not have it with my Macbook. You need it for powerpoint and writing papers. All the papers that are submitted is thru Turnitin and should be formatted in apa format. Grading wise- the professors seem to give mostly full points as long as you look at the rubric and accomplish everything on it. So far I have an A. I chose South because of the flexibility and back to back classes. Also the tuition is much less than other school. Total was 33,000 I think when I calculated. I also want to finish as soon as I can. You can double up but you have to tell your academic advisor. They will tell you they do not recommend it but tell them you still want to. I did it and I am working full time. Good luck!

I have just completed my course work and im starting to study for boards. The classes are doable but there is a lot of work to be done. I couldn't imagine taking more than one clinical class at a time, don't think the school will allow it.

Please, I'll like to get the link to South University Online students Facebook page. My email address is [email protected].

Just finished South University MSN-FNP at the Richmond Campus cohort 3. I loved it. For me I'm very disappointed on a computer, but being in a classroom with the group discussion there's no comparison. Get ready to take my boards going down to Tampa to a Fitzgerald course first of May feel totally confident and look forward to the future.

I started the online program and have started my clinical in January, getting ready for Adults & Gerontology but I'll like to get involve in the student forum on Facebook. I'll appreciate it if I can get the link to the website.

does South list a graduation rate for the program? When I got my FAFSA approval, it listed all the rates for the schools I applied to and had South at 9%. Surely this isnt true

I too did my FAFSA and saw the 9% pass rate. I've been accepted to the program but am very weary of it. My concern is that employers will look at South University as some random school. Hard to dish out $33k for a program that has had terrible reviews!

It is a great school. The problem is it is a hard school that has high expectation of its students and demands it. I did the classroom for my BSN and Later my FNP. The RN portion to the BSN-RN program they started with 28 students 2 years later at graduation 7 walked. I worked full time and did the program. I had a good study program and a stuck to a schedule and was serious student throughout the program. When in the MSN-FNP program everyone graduated 100%. Why? Because they applied the above.

Doesn't FAFSA look at all majors overall?

I was wondering was this work all for one class? In your experience do you think the classroom and online work were comparable?

Didn't do the online but meet some of the students that did go the online route when in clinicals. I feel they were not as prepared. I'm sure we went over the same materials but she was lost when it came to application and critical thinking. I feel being in a classroom and discussing scenarios and details in front of a practicing DNP instructor gave me advantages that the online student just didn't have.
